I am thankful that God gave me the courage to pursue advanced education through this MSN program. I have lost all interest in going back to school, but the current economy and political climate in the entire nation and the world made me realize that I can contribute to the growth and development of nursing by investing in myself through education. I was so nervous when I started this MSN program because I was working full-time, and time management was a big challenge. I almost dropped this class because I was running behind with my commitment in my life, doing my assignments and readings for this course. I am thankful to our professor and to all of you for engaging me as I read all your works and views as a student and as a nurse. I was not thinking of my worldviews before, but this class made me organize my thoughts and put into writing my worldviews. I have become conscious of EBP in nursing and its application in the workplace. I became a better critical care nurse because of my level of engagement in this class and the learnings I have acquired throughout this course. APA doesn’t make sense to me before, but now I have become more knowledgeable in learning it for this course. Lastly is learning about research. We are all in the early stage of doing nursing research, but this is very useful in our future as advanced practice nurses. Lastly, if you ask me if I have met my expectations in this course? Reflecting back on this first course, I have learned many things.  I manage my time better overall. I was very concerned about going back to school while working full time, but I have made the adjustment well. The weekly schedule of the class fits well with my work schedule. I have met my goals for this course which included learning to navigate the learning portal and mastering APA format, as well as applying what I have learned to my current nursing role and future roles. As the class progressed, I continued to learn more tricks to the portal, available resources, and APA formatting as I utilized different kinds of sources. My next steps are to apply what I have learned to my future classes and continue to learn how to write better papers. are relevant and current for advance practice nurses for it gave us a stronger voice in advocating and lobbying for better quality health care for all. I had an amazing experience so far since I started my journey with a master’s degree. NUR 513 class has been a significant and exciting class right from the beginning to this point. The course has been critical in outlining advanced registered nurses’ legal and ethical roles in disease prevention and health promotion. The learning process has been smooth, with the first step involving an outline of the existing advance registered nurse specialties. The topic offered a direction on the scope of advanced practice and was vital in introducing the class.

I was then glad to understand the ethical and licensure requirements for the diverse advanced nursing practice specialties. In the third week, I identified that there are global perspectives on the advanced nursing role. I also identified my personal worldview, which is highly influenced by my Christian beliefs. In topics 4 and 5, I understood the significance of nursing theories in practice. I also found out that Jean Watson’s Human caring theory significantly aligns with my current practice and would impact my future role as a Clinical Nurse Leader.

In the sixth topic, I learned about scholarly nursing research and the credibility of nursing articles. Topic 6 prepared me for the next week where I learned about the significance of the evidence-based practice. Topic 8 then outlined the significance and the role of nursing professional bodies. I have learned a lot during this course. I was very nervous about going back to school because it has been a while since I was in school and doing paperwork stresses me out. It is crazy to think we are almost done with our first class of graduate school. Prior to starting this course, I was not very excited about it. In my undergraduate, courses like this were my least favorite classes; I always enjoyed classes like pathophysiology and pharmacology more. However, I will say that this class has actually been enjoyable. The material that we have covered has been interesting enough to keep me engaged. I went back to my personal goals for this course as well as the syllabus which provides the goals for this course. In this course, we reviewed nursing theories and their application in modern-day practice, our worldview as it relates to the role of ethics in advanced practice nurses, regulatory bodies and professional organizations, global diversity and health equity, evidence-based practice and research process, APRN roles, and the APA format. Looking back at my personal goals, it was not even half of what I learned during this course. I truly enjoyed the time spent learning and reading through the class topic discussion and responses and going through the topic resources and other related references. I also feel more confident using the APA format for writing my papers, although it is still far from perfect. I appreciate the feedback from the professor and it helped me a lot, especially with the tiny details related to the APA format that I keep missing. I am looking forward to the rest of my journey in graduate school. This was such a great beginning. Thank you for the pleasant experience.

Looking back on the previous seven weeks of this course, I realize how much I have learned and how I’ve come to look at nursing with new insight. Studying nursing theory and the role of advanced registered nurses has helped clarify both my place in the nursing realm as well as my goals and aspirations for what I want to achieve as an advanced registered nurse.

At the beginning of this course, my goals were to engage fully with the material, connect with and learn from my peers, and improve my fluency with APA formatting.
