Hi Class,

I hope things are going well during our first few weeks of class! I would like you to take a minute and think about the goals you have for this class. When we have specific and targeted goals, we are better able to determine when and how meet our objectives. Please respond to this topic with:

  • A prioritized list of 3 to 5 goals for your personal learning for this course.
  • Include a brief description of how you see yourself accomplishing your goals.
  • Let me know what I can do to help you achieve your outlined goals.

While this is not a graded or required activity, I find that it is helpful to outline what you want to personally gain from a course. Also, your responses will count towards your participation, as long as they are substantive in nature (at least 100 words long).

I have many goals for this course and graduate school in general. My biggest goal is to fully engage and to absorb as much information as possible. I have limited knowledge on the information in this class, but I am hoping that I will have a great understanding by the end of this class. To keep myself accountable, I want to be actively working on schoolwork at least 5 days per week, whether this is doing assigned reading, discussion posts, or other assignments. There is a lot of information to learn in this class, and I want to get the absolute most out of it.

My next biggest goal is to take the time to read my classmates discussion posts, even if I am not replying to them. Everyone within this class has a unique background within nursing, and it is always great to learn from a different perspective. My fellow classmates have a very diverse background of knowledge and expertise, and I am very excited to learn from their work experiences.

My final goal is to try my absolute hardest to get straight A’s. I am aware that getting an A in every class is not the most important thing, but I am easily motivated by grades. I have always been a student who is disappointed to get anything less than an A, but this is obviously a much harder program, and I am working 50+ hours per week, so it could definitely be a challenge. I am excited and nervous to see what the remainder of this class and program will bring.

My goals for this class are as follows:

Make a consorted effort to respond to the weekly DQ and other weekly assignment whether its a graded or non graded responses with in the specific time allotted. For I know if I were to submit a late assignment I would probably loose points, every points are important to me.

Learn as much as possible from this and subsequent classes so when I finish with school and become a nurse leader with a higher degree I can be effective and bring about change on the unit where I work and the patient population I serve.

Pass all my classes with decent grades for me grade is very important it is reflective of application dedication to the course of study.

Read all my classmates posts for iI know I will definitely come away with some new information which iI can incorporate in my daily practice.

I can achieve my goals by a few simple alteration in my time. I am prepared to cut back on the over time I generally work, focus on reading the outlined chapters and other material that might be helpful, spending less time on my phone looking at nothing of importance and lastly probable taking less road trips.

My goal in life is simple- to make a difference in my life and the life of others that I have met and touched. Nursing is my way to do that whether it be at the bedside, in nursing leadership, or as a nurse practitioner in the future. My life’s journey was never easy. It was peppered with a lot of trials and hardships that sometimes I can’t imagine I was able to overcome but here I am emerging to be stronger than ever.

The reason why I went back to school is to change the trajectory of my nursing career. I feel that the bedside is still a fun and challenging nursing experience but it is too stressful. My coworkers say that I don’t seem to be bothered as I take care of critical patients. I can still keep my composure and I can still critically think despite the odds. But I am getting tired of the many issues in healthcare and I am trying to learn ways to improve our nursing career. I worked in a prominent healthcare institution in New York. Clientele or patients come from all backgrounds, cultures, and financial statuses. Some are elites and others are illegal immigrants living in New York. They have one thing in common and that is their hearts are failing and we do everything to send them back home to their families. I work with the best minds in the world. They can be the best cardiologist, cardiothoracic surgeons, and other experts in their field of specialties. I also worked with fellows and residents that are still specializing in the field of their choice and my fellow healthcare workers. In other words, New York is already stressful in itself and I am working in one of the most stressful fields in the world of healthcare. I am not complaining but sometimes the stress gets to me. I also have a lot of family and personal struggles that compound my life. Having said that, I am delighted to take the challenge of this online learning journey with all of you and I hope to become stronger every step of the way. It is my pleasure to learn from your answers and experiences to every question and with our professor’s guidance. I am positive that my learning journey will be an engaging and enriching one. I work a lot of long hours every day. I squeezed in my reading every hour to finish the books assigned to us and as I move along I complete my assignments as well. I tend to be hard on myself when it comes to learning which I have acquired since my preschool days so you can just imagine how hard I am now on myself if I am missing anything. But I always tell myself that life and learning are a journey and the challenges are the ones that make me stronger and level-headed. I make an effort to learn every step of the way as I navigate my way through online learning. Of course, passing my classes with good grades is paramount to success and to accomplish that I need to learn effective time management skills. I work a lot of overtime because of financial constraints and family responsibilities that are so important to me. To be successful in my challenges, I follow these guiding principles:

Learn an evidence-based nursing practice to affect healthcare outcomes by providing excellent nursing care through direct and indirect care. My focus is on adult and geriatric populations but I also focus on young pediatrics with congenital heart conditions. I am committed to implementing good nursing judgment in my cardiology area of nursing practice. I am also focused on sustainable cost-effective nursing care plans that can transform healthcare despite the odds of financial and political realities, especially in New York. I would like to become part of the people who can affect change that will strengthen our nursing foundation for future nursing practice and most importantly, be able to contribute to the clinical strengthening of population healthcare outcomes for our nation’s health and future. Thank you.

My goal going through this course is to learn as much as I can about the advanced practice nurses’ roles and their scope of practice as well as learn the differences between each APRN role. I like reading the materials being presented. A lot of the information is new to me. I would like to allocate more time to read through them.

I would also like to learn from my fellow graduate school students, taking time to read their discussion posts and learning about the experiences of nurses from different specialties, different states, and different backgrounds, made me realize how diverse the nurses’ role is.

In this course, I also want to learn more about the APA format. Since this is the required format to use for assignments, it would be helpful if I get to master the formatting requirements. I just need to continue to practice and refer back to the resources provided in order to be more familiar, as well taking the time to review the formatting against the samples provided.

As for the help needed in achieving these goals, constructive, detailed feedback, and recommendations for improvement would be much appreciated.
