I’ve identified the following academic resources and/or strategies that can be used to achieve success in nursing practice in general, and in my specialty in particular.

Identify and describe at least three academic resources or strategies pertinent to the MSN program, as well as at least three professional resources pertinent to success in nursing practice in general or in your specialty in particular. Explain how you intend to use each of these resources and how they will help you in your academic and professional pursuits.

Academic Strategy/Resource 1

The library is one of the academic resources that I will apply to the MSN program. The university library is a vital resource that I will utilize in order to acquire the knowledge necessary for academic success. The library is critical for MSN students because it houses a variety of books, journals, and publications that can be used for research. Additionally, the library employs resourceful individuals such as the librarian, who assists students in locating the information necessary for academic success. I will use the library to acquire resources such as books that will enable me to gain adequate knowledge in practice areas related to my specialization. Additionally, I will utilize the library to access necessary reading and research resources, such as journals and electronic books, via databases such as EMBASE and Medline.

Academic Resource/Strategy 2

The second academic resource that I will utilize for my MSN program is the writing centre. The writing centre provides graduate students with the opportunities to expand their knowledge and skills on different writing styles and reporting of research findings. Students also receive guidance on the approaches to writing reports in a concise manner (Walden University Writing Center, n.d.). I will use the writing centre for assistance such as proofreading and publication of my researches. I will also obtain research-related information such as writing guidelines that should be utilized by the graduate students.

Academic Resource/Strategy 3

The third academic resource that I will utilize for my MSN program is the fellowship centre for graduate students. The graduate centre provides the necessary financial support to new and continuing students to continue with their studies. The support is given based on one’s academic performance. Therefore, graduate students are encouraged to explore the possibilities of their needed financial support, which can enhance their success in the MSN program. I will use the fellowship centre to obtain the necessary financial support for my program. Professional Resource/Strategy 1

One of the professional resources that I will utilize for the MSN program is my instructors. The delivery of the content for the MSN program will depend largely on the role played by the instructors and supervisors. The instructors and supervisors provide MSN students with the guidance in knowledge and skill development for their roles as advanced practice nurses (Kauffman, 2015; Gilmore, Wofford & Maher, 2016). I will seek the assistance of the instructors and professors on issues related to the course concepts. I will also seek their support on issues related to practicum objectives and research or thesis development. I will also use them as my mentors. I will rely on them on issues related to my personal and professional development

Professional Resource/Strategy 2

The second professional resource is professional bodies for nursing. Knowledge development and networking are important factors in

the MSN program. The students should be informed on the events that influence their practice and connected to other advanced practice nurses in the state. Professional nursing bodies such as the American Nurses Association provide nurses with the opportunities to participate in activities that influence the practice of MSN nurses (American Nurses Association, n.d.). They also set and revise standards that guide nursing practice. I will use the professional organizations for networking purposes. I will participate in the activities of professional organizations such as discussions to remain updated on new developments in the profession. I will also use the forums to link up with other nurses from different regions in the state. NURS 6003 Part 2 Academic Resources and Strategies.

Professional Resource/Strategy 3

The last professional resource that I will utilize for my MSN program is the librarian. Librarians have extensive knowledge and skills on the acquisition of the different sources of evidence-based data. They also have adept experience in the use of different tools that can be used in the development of researches, dissertations, and proposals. MSN students can utilize this resourceful person to advance their understanding of the different concepts related to literature acquisition, review, and analysis and data presentation. I will use the librarian to provide assistance in acquiring the reading and research resources from the library. I will also seek support from the librarian on issues of research such as ways of doing citations and writing guidelines for the institution.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES/STRATEGIEs

One of the additional strategies that I will utilize for my success in the program is time management. I will ensure that I use the available time effectively to meet the demands of the programs as well as my personal needs. I will prioritize my tasks to ensure that the most important tasks are completed in a timely manner. The other strategy is being an active member of teams in the program. I will seek to work actively in collaboration with the other team members on issues related to our academic success. I will strive to lead projects as a way of strengthening my leadership skills. I will also strive to ensure that optimum productivity is achieved in teams that I lead through interventions such as open communication and increasing transparency and responsibility in team-related activities. The last strategy I will utilize in the program is being self-disciplined. I will strive to ensure that I behave according to the rules and regulations of the institution. I will also seek to ensure that I engage in activities that align with program objectives for my success.

Discussion: Strategies for Addressing Questions

In Module 1, you began building a foundation for your success by considering a network-individuals and teams who can help you to clarify and execute on the vision. A network is most helpful when you are comfortable asking questions. Chances are other members of your network have experienced similar questions and may have helped guide others toward resolutions that can now be helpful.

In this Discussion, focus on the questions you are ready to ask as your journey begins. Keep in mind that sharing questions is often a great way to help others who have similar questions even if they do not realize it!

To prepare:

  • Reflect on questions or concerns you might have as you begin the MSN program.
  • Consider the individuals, teams, and departments you previously considered in Module 1 as well as how they may provide support with addressing these questions and concerns.

By Day 3 of Week 2

Post any questions or concerns that you are willing to share with the group. The Discussion board represents an opportunity to network with your course colleagues, and others may have the same questions or concerns.

Discussion: Strategies for Addressing Questions

The selected academic and professional networks that will help me succeed in my MSN program include Walden University faculty members in the College of Nursing and practicing PMHNPs. As I begin my MSN program towards becoming a PMHNP, I have questions and concerns about the program and the nursing career path I have selected.  My concerns regarding the MSN program include clinical placement and allocation of preceptors. For instance, are the clinical placement hours adequate for a student to acquire the knowledge and skills on assessing, diagnosing, and preparing treatment plans? (Delaney & Vanderhoef, 2019). What are the options if the assigned preceptor is not supportive or willing to mentor the student?

In addition, I have questions about becoming successful in the MSN program.

For instance, what are the qualities you observe that make MSN students successful in the PMHNP program? What abilities must one have for one to succeed in the MSN program? (Phoenix, 2019). What characteristics are specific to the MSN program that distinguishes it from other programs? (Phoenix, 2019). What challenges do students most commonly face when pursuing the MSN program?

Regarding the PMHNP career path, my concerns are: Are PMHNP graduates in high demand in the country? Are PMHNPs recognized by other mental health professionals and employers as adequately trained in evidence-based practice and competent to implement innovative practice models? (Chapman et al., 2018). How long will I take to get a PMHNP job on completion? What should I do if I get into an organization that does not acknowledge the PMHNP scope of practice? (Chapman et al., 2018). Besides, I have questions on the qualities one should have to become a successful PMHNP. What are the key qualities a PMHNP should have to have a successful practice?
