Go to the GCU Library and examine the resources located on the “Getting Started Understanding Plagiarism” page. Based upon these resources, describe plagiarism. How can LopesWrite be used to ensure your paper does not contain plagiarized material? Describe one additional method that can be used to avoid plagiarism.

Plagiarism is trying to pass off someone else academic work as your own without giving proper credit/citation to the original writer. Plagiarism sometimes it can be intentional or other times it can be the citation is not correct. LopesWrite can be used to check for plagiarized material by looking at the similarity score for example a similarity score of 30% means that only 70 % is your work and 30 % is another author you has the option to go back and check by proper citation this can be done multiples of times until you reach an acceptable similarity score which is generally below 15 % of less. students can avoid plagiarism by summarizing, paraphrasing or using quotation marks to indicate the original author. Summarizing is basically rewriting to original author work in your own words but still retains the same message.

There are different types of plagiarism and sometimes people do not have intentions or have no idea that they committed plagiarism. Such as not citing correct references is a form of plagiarism. This does not apply to just writing papers but also images, music or videos. Lopeswrite is a great tool to ensure there is no plagiarism in the submitted content. It shows students similarity scores and if the score is too high, a student can rewrite or revise his work. Students should keep track on their sources and adding information in your own words should be done. Paraphrasing itself is not enough because sometimes to still show plagiarism. Using quotation marks and crediting the author should be added to the reference list.

Plagiarism is the process of using information from someone else without giving credit to the source. Plagiarism is often thought to be the intentional stealing of others’ work, but it can be unintentional at times. In some cases, the author may fail to follow proper citation guidelines. Although this may not be intentional, it is still plagiarism. To help prevent plagiarism, GCU has given us access to LopesWrite. This resource is very helpful because it tells you the percentage of your paper that is similar to online and academic text; typically, a similarity score of 20% or more is considered plagiarism. Additionally, it will tell you the specific areas of your paper that are too similar to outside sources. LopesWrite also shows the percentage of text that is used within quotation marks. For academic writing, you want to use direct quotes sparingly. A method that I use to avoid plagiarism is to site my sources in the reference list immediately after I plan to use the content. I also proof read my papers prior to submission to make sure everything that is not my own thoughts is cited appropriately.

Plagiarism is when a person uses another person’s writing as their own. The writer does not give credit to the original person or acknowledge the source. Credit needs to be given when quoting or paraphrasing another’s work.

LopesWrite can be used to ensure a paper does not contain plagiarized material. A paper submitted in LopesWrite generates a report and underlines the material that matches another source. If the material is cited appropriately, it can still be used as long as it does not make up too high of a percentage of the paper. LopesWrite provides a match percentage that typically needs to be below 20%. If the percentage is higher, focus on the notifications in the paper and review and revise these areas to lower the percentage.

Another method that can be used to avoid plagiarism is to plan the paper. Plan what sources will be used and balance them with original writing. An outline and a strong thesis statement can help plan a paper. The thesis statement should be specific stating what will be discussed in the paper and then support it with original writing and cited material to back it up.

Plagiarism can seriously impact a nurse’s academic career. The exact consequences of plagiarism depend on the severity and the institution’s policy; the results remain the same such as a lower grade, failing a course, academic suspension or probation, or even expulsion. Plagiarism impacts a person’s reputation and undermines an instructor’s trust and confidence in you. Peers may lose respect and choose not to work with you on group projects. Even if you are not caught, your self-esteem can be impacted by knowing that you didn’t deserve the grade you received. LopesWrite can be used to check for plagiarized material by looking at the similarity score. The similarity score should be below 15%. As a GCU student, you can revise your work as many times as you want to and use your own words or cite the author or papers that served as your source. To avoid plagiarism, commit to honesty and integrity in your work by incorporating references and citations scrupulously.

Plagiarism is a use of someone’s idea or work from online content, book, magazine, or journal article without giving the credit to the author or use as our own idea and work. Plagiarism can be of several types such as using others’ ideas or words on our own papers or assignments without citing. Paraphrasing also needs to be credited with correct citation. Lopes Write is a great tool to check plagiarism and grammar. Assignments are required to be submitted in LopesWrite before we submit to the class. It helps to check similarity score and it should be less than 20 %. If it is more than 20%, we have the option to rewrite and submit. According to GCU (Grand Canyon University) guidelines 0% plagiarism is acceptable. We can prevent plagiarism by giving credit to the author including intext citation and references of used content and ideas.

Transcultural Nursing Theory developed by Madeleine Leininger will be essential to my future role as an advanced practice nurse educator within my wound care and ostomy specialty. In the area of my practice, wound and ostomy, we see a diverse range of population with different cultural backgrounds from around the world. For this reason, I feel that it is a challenge to be familiar with all different languages and cultures. We see from premature babies to the elderly in the outpatient and inpatient setting from simple to complex wounds (e.g., venous, diabetic, pyoderma gangrenosum, and pressure injuries), Ostomies (e.g., colostomies, ileostomies, urostomies, and continent ileostomies), and enterocutaneous fistulas.

Leininger’s nursing theory involves knowing and understanding different cultures concerning nursing and health-illness caring practices, beliefs, and values to provide meaningful and efficacious nursing care services to people’s cultural values health-illness context (Gonzalo, 2023). It focuses on the fact that different cultures have different caring behaviors and different health and illness values, beliefs, and patterns of behaviors (Gonzalo, 2023). Madeleine Leininger’s Sunrise Model was developed in a logical order to demonstrate the interrelationships of the concepts in her theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality (Gonzalo, 2023). The model utilizes three concepts: culture care preservation/maintenance, culture care accommodation/negotiation, and culture care repatterning/ restructuring.

Transcultural Nursing Theory is applicable to my practice because it is important to care for the patient while taking into consideration their cultural background.  As a nurse educator within my specialty, providing sensitive cultural patient care will enhance a patient’s response to treatment, care and overall, their health and wellbeing. Also, it is important to respect their beliefs of nontraditional care if it will not cause them harm.  Good communication with patients that have a language barrier is essential. By using clear and simple language to communicate with the patient and providing a language interpreter will build trust with patients and families.

To conclude, in my practice, we see patients from around the world with different cultural backgrounds and Transcultural Nursing Theory will be essential to my practice. This theory will be a guide to avoid language barriers and culturally incompetent care which affects not only the patient but the family as well.
