NHS 8040 Discussion Question Ethical Uses of Databases
For this discussion, adhere to the guidelines in the FEM as you address the following:
While upholding ethical use of administrative databases is paramount to protect human subjects, some argue that strict regulations impede population health research. Discuss the issues most germane to the protection of human research subjects when conducting analyses on large administrative databases. How do researchers manage the issue of informed consent when conducting research in large datasets containing protected health information (PHI)? Should these same rules apply to health data uploaded from personal electronic devices for health care improvement or research? Why or why not? Support your opinion with citations from professional literature.
