My name is K and I currently am a staff nurse in a medical intensive care and coronary care unit in Little Rock, Arkansas. Before graduating from nursing school, I worked as a nursing assistant and a Licensed Practical Nurse. I have worked as a bedside nurse in critical care, med-surg, radiology, and the cath-lab. In the process, I discovered my love for teaching. Whether it was precepting a new graduate or championing new policies and teaching staff nurses how to implement them, having knowledgeable nurse educators is essential to the nursing profession.
I graduated with my BSN from University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2017. I knew I wanted to pursue a post-graduate degree, but was unsure how I would be able to work full-time while doing it. After speaking with a co-worker, who recently graduated from Walden, I knew this would be the best fit for my vision for myself and my future career goals. Walden is devoted to helping students balance their education with their personal and professional lives (Walden, 2020a). This affords me to further my education at a pace that works with, not against, my work and family life.
I aim to achieve the vision that Walden sets forth, specifically advancing the greater good(2020a). As a nurse educator, I have the patience, understanding, and knowledge to be an effective educator and be an agent of positive social change (2020a) for nurses, nursing students, and the communities that I am a part of. Stys (2008) stated “most everyone believes that working or social justice is a noble undertaking, but nurses can do better to educate themselves, their peers, and their students about what social justice requires of nurses as health care leaders and educators.”(p.368).
Another way I plan to utilize my degree is to serve the role as a community health nurse. Sometimes access to care is not the problem, lack of knowledge is. In my opinion, community health nursing can be the first line of defense for many patients, many whom don’t even have a primary physician. I put on a yearly health far at my church in which we check blood pressure, glucose, perform rapid HIV tests, and talk to members of our community about the importance of taking care of themselves. Whether it be in the hospital setting teaching experienced nurses, or as a faculty nursing instructor for a college, I am prepared to promote quality improvement of patient-centered care in accordance with professional practice standards that transform health outcomes for diverse populations(2020b).

Discussion: Networking Opportunities
You will begin laying the groundwork for academic and professional success in this module. Your efforts should begin with a vision for success that includes your own definition. While your vision may be different than that of your colleagues, this does not mean you must take these initial steps alone.
Walden University and the College of Nursing have their own visions and missions, which include assisting you in realizing your own. Additionally, members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support staff, and fellow students, can be beneficial. Practitioners in the field and other members of the professional community can also assist you in refining your vision.
The Discussion section of this Module invites you to consider how the Walden mission and vision, as well as the mission and vision of the College of Nursing, relate to your professional and academic goals.
Additionally, you will begin identifying individuals and teams who can assist you as you design the “blueprint”—your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision of academic and professional success. Finally, you’ll discuss the value of networking and how it can assist you in achieving your professional and academic objectives.
Hello everyone, my name is Chioma Onuoha. I am married with five kids. My focus in the MSN program is family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). I have been a registered nurse for more than ten years. And during those years, I have worked both in hospital, nursing homes and in people’s homes. I have been at the bedside providing holistic care to individuals and their families. Having worked in different capacity for that long, I believe that it’s about time that I advance my nursing career.
In the current time period of DNA genome sequencing, and other perimeter of research efforts that focuses heavily on the mastery of the human anatomy at an infinitesimal level, it is my utmost belief that the future of health care lies within the beck and call of the health care providers that have clasped the dividends of exploration and transformation. It was based on this hypothesis, that I started searching for a graduate nursing school that will train me to be able to conduct an in-depth research to ascertain the overall patient outcomes when health care providers adjust and employ new research initiatives in the treatment of the patient. I reached a verdict that Walden MSN program will prepare me for this mission because her outcomes and perspectives relates to my professional and academic goal of becoming a scholar-practitioner. Walden university’s diversity, multiculturalism within their profession, communities and society as well as their global outreach and accessibility to busy adults, especially working professionals who are determined to advance their learning, positions her as my number one choice. An MSN degree from Walden University, School of Nursing will avail me a spot in the nursing of the future.
Healthcare systems around the globe are becoming increasingly overwhelmed especially in the wake of this covid-19 era. As such, it has become imperative that healthcare professionals are highly needed in order to meet the demand for quality healthcare delivery systems in the 21st century. The covid-19 pandemic tested the quality of several healthcare emergency preparedness and disease surveillance systems around the world. In addition to the lack of a potent vaccine, this situation succeeded in putting a strain on the existing lean healthcare workforce, particularly in the U.S., thereby creating a global crisis for quality of life, quality of healthcare delivery systems and well-being of communities and the human population overall. Hence the need to develop robust health policies that ensure sufficient healthcare funding, quality of health data collection, analysis, decision-making and by extension, the sustained wellbeing of humanity in the 21st century and beyond. It is my prerogative to be part of the team that will provide solution to this problem. This is in line with Walden’s school of nursing’s vision to be recognized as a preeminent 21st-century school of nursing in which the contributions of nursing, health, and related sciences will transform the provision of nursing services along the continuum of care and across the human life span to meet the needs of individuals and local and global communities
On another note, I can confidently state that Walden University academic culture will tremendously advance my critical thinking, communication, leadership skills and professional values which remains an integral part of nursing practice. Nevertheless, considering that nursing care to the sick, needy and the vulnerable has always been my desire, it is my firm belief that Walden’s vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives which relates hugely to my professional and academic goals will enable me to avail an evidence-based care and outcomes to both New Jersey and New York communities. It is my passion to become an active player in the future of nursing, a future that is hinged on evidence-based practice
Networking is a vital part of learning. It will help me achieve both professional and academic goals by enabling me to improve and develop nursing skill set, stay on top as far as the latest trends in the healthcare industry goes, keep a pulse on the healthcare job market, come to close quarters with prospective mentors, partners, clients, etc., grant me both the platform to synergize with colleagues and an access to important resources that will advance my nursing career.
All in all, I believe that by acquiring an MSN degree from Walden University, I will someday begin to live the life of excellence that I have always imagined, as a scholar-practitioner.

Great post! Networking has endless benefits and you touched on some excellent examples in your post! As you stated, networking is important in creating positive patient outcomes. As nurses we dedicate ourselves to lifelong learning, to ensure we provide the best quality of care and the best patient outcomes. We do this by staying informed and being a part of ongoing developments, in evidence-based practice. By networking with healthcare professionals in various specialties, we are presented with information, that makes us examine patient care on a broader scale, than we would normally view it. It also presents insight into how healthcare is changing, overall. Together, this introduces fresh ideas and better patient outcomes.
The benefits of networking on academic success, was another key point you touched on. Networking allows you to establish relationships with like-minded people, that can offer not only advice but support as well. As working adults, on a quest to obtain a higher degree and become scholarly-practitioners, we may face obstacles along our journey. These obstacles may cause various levels of stress. Ensuring you have a good support system, can help you to be more productive and decrease the level of stress you are experiencing (Schmidt, n.d.). Networking provides the opportunity to connect with professionals in the specialty you have interest in and gain insight from the knowledge and skills they have. The professionals you network with can also be valuable assets when you begin to look for a job in your new career. Based on statistics, more than half of employed individuals, secured their job by networking with other professionals (Wofford, 2018).
Your post was very thoughtful! Great job, Brandi!
