A Sample Answer For the Assignment: Assignment: Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

Title: Assignment: Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

My personal worldview is a concept that defines and guides my decisions in life. These concepts allow me to gain more insights into my reality and the entire world. Besides, they determine how I perceive my sense of reality, especially what I regard as truthful. These perceptions have been significant in guiding my ethical and moral principles. Besides, they assist me in applying spiritual, cultural, and religious teachings to counter various challenges in my life (Luquis & Pérez, 2021). Again, they open more opportunities that will define my future life. Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to describe my personal worldview, select a specific nursing theory that aligns with my personal philosophy, and explain this using my current practice.

Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

My worldview is based on Christian teachings because I am a Christian. I believe that God created me for a particular purpose on this earth. I rely on the absolute truth that God is the supreme creator and has dominion over everything under the sun. God defines this universe through creativity and purity. He allows human beings have authority over their choices, including making mistakes. However, God promises that these mistakes will not go unpunished on judgment day (Liefbroer et al., 2019). God is the sovereign being who created his people with a specific role on earth. We believe that one God will punish the wrongdoings, especially for those people who do not adhere to these ten commandments described in the book of Exodus, chapter 20, verse 1. In view of these concepts, I understand that I should be leaving my life to please God and do the right thing that God wants his people to do while still on earth. Therefore, I ascribe to the Christian worldview that has the bible as the holy book of instructions given to men to guide their lives.

I understand that I am not a perfect being and that sometimes I make mistakes. Despite my understanding of the bible, I always sin, which is a form of mistake according to the biblical teachings. These mistakes sometimes make me have the feeling of being worthless before my creator. In renewing my walk with God, I constantly repent and seek God’s forgiveness for all the sins I might have committed knowingly or unknowingly. As a Christian, I use biblical teachings as my life’s foundation and guide my actions. The interaction with my environment has changed my thinking about law, man, God, and science (Liefbroer et al., 2019). However, I try to delve much into bible study to see the connection between my current worldview about God and my role as a Christian in doing the right thing. I tend to settle on decisions that will cause the least disruptions in my life (Currey et al., 2018; Wei et al., 2019). The conflict between biblical and environmental influences forms the basis of all ethical conflicts in my line of duty. For instance, when facing the issue of same-sex marriages, abortion, and cloning arguments. In this respect, my worldview perception is affected bible and environment while focusing on leading a Christian life.

Nursing Theory that Aligns with Personal Worldview

My personal statement corresponds to the theory of Human Caring. Jean Watson founded this theory in  1975. My Christian life is guided by the biblical principles that permit me to do good and dwell on God’s service. Many people believe that service to God is by becoming clergy and preaching the good news to the people in the society. However, I am not a clergy, but I am happy to serve people and do God’s will by offering better health services. The theory outlines that caring is a service accomplished by engaging patients in offering better nursing care (Duman et al., 2020). The theory guides nurses in showing compassion and concern for patients to achieve better patient outcomes. Patients form part of the vulnerable population that needs nurses who would always act in their best interest. Therefore, I am motivated to offer the best healthcare services to my patients by having a caring mentality and personality.

Various medicinal factors define my actions and choices. First, embracing patients and offering service to all my patients in equal measure is a major factor that plays a significant role in my role as a nurse. These actions help gain trust among my patients and allow them to respond effectively to the administered treatment. The second factor is the motivation to offer the desired patient care. The third factor is developing a better and more caring relationship with my patients (Solbakken et al., 2018). The fourth is inculcating trust by offering culturally sensitive care and supporting individual beliefs. The fifth is practicing forgiveness and offering advice on ways to avoid mistakes. The sixth factor is the application of the current evidence-based research in improving my nursing practice. The seventh factor is about designing a balance between patient and personal needs. The eighth is creating a better healing environment (Liefbroer et al., 2019). The ninth factor is offering spiritual needs to my patients and finally being open to opportunities beyond science, as science cannot be an answer for everything.

How Worldview and Nursing Theory will Help in Developing Future Practice

The Human Caring theory aligns with my personal perception of the world as a Christian believer. Again, it plays a significant role in my life as a practicing nurse. For example, the theory has strengthened my ways of tolerating other people and made me open to the idea of other people in society. It has also taught me humility in understanding other people’s views and making the correct (Gürcan & Atay Turan, 2021). In offering my nursing services, I understand that my ability to offer better healthcare services is limited to expectations, knowledge, and environmental factors.

As a Christian, I believe in treating people with dignity and respect. Treating others with the same level of respect and dignity allows one to offer quality services to all, irrespective of their color or socio-economic background. On the other hand, I have learned to appreciate the importance of personal interactions in my nursing practice, especially in tailoring the healing process (Naik et al., 2020). In my nursing practice, I will always look forward to offering the most effective care that meets the desired expectation.

My theory and worldview would allow me to make a difference within my community by enabling me to make better decisions related to healthcare access. These perceptions help me affirm and protect humanity as part of God’s valuable creation. The theory and my view will help me live an authentic life by unveiling my thoughts, feelings, and attitude in healthcare (Sitzman, 2017). The theory will also enhance my caring personality and change how I relate to patients. The combination of my personality and worldview will help me gain influence through education and experience, which will help me gain familiarity with nursing concepts. The increased advancement in nursing education would as well allow serving my patients at higher levels of nursing that would meet a great patient outcome.

Conclusion

My nursing theory and perception of the world have confirmed that nursing is my preferred career. They help me be determined to develop my skills in advancing my nursing skills. I believe that focusing on my Christian beliefs and the theory will allow tap into other nursing skills that will advance my career.

A Sample Answer 2 For the Assignment: Assignment: Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

Title: Assignment: Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

The information one accrues indicates an impulse towards growth and actualization as well as an active will toward health. It is what helps one develop a belief system that directs what they think is possible and guides on the results allowed or created in life (Newbanks, Rieg & Schaefer, 2018). The information also helps one understand what the healthcare field means to them and personalize it. All this is based on values, beliefs, and worldview which changes over time. This paper aims at explaining a personal worldview, establishing a nursing theory that relates to personal patient care approach, outlining how personal worldview can resolve a current practice issue and explaining how the nursing theory and worldview apply to future practice.

My philosophy in patient care revolves around offering empathetic, compassionate, optimal, competent and holistic care. The philosophy comes from the values and beliefs instilled at a younger age and it is supplemented by trustworthiness, respect, and compassion. It is the one that created a need to join the nursing profession with a desire to help the community, family, and patients. To ensure that the philosophy works, I have to keep learning all the aspects that deal with patient care as well as critique research materials to get a wealth of information that can be transposed to knowledge (Newbanks, Rieg & Schaefer, 2018). That way I get the right skills and I can provide optimal and quality care.

Assignment: Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

In terms of personal belief, I am against any discrimination and hold that sexual orientation, ethnic background and cultural beliefs of families and patients should be respected.  With such a belief, it is possible to offer patients the care they deserve without bias. I also try the best to follow what the Joint Commission and the American Nurse Association stipulate on ethical codes. The two organizations state that one should offer confidentiality, privacy, and safe care and at the same time protect the rights of their patients (Cantey et al., 2017). It is a personal desire to promote, advocate and educate on good health practices and disease awareness while supporting strong family values within the community served. I believe that a career in nursing offers one a chance to utilize their skills and knowledge to assist people who need the care and help. Nursing in itself is a calling and calls for a lot of sacrifices and stewardship.

As indicated above, most of the values come from lessons learned during childhood. I come from a Christian background to be precise a protestant. I believe that one should adhere to a particular set of belief, values, and practices because it is important to patients and their families. All nurses have to acquire basic knowledge of common religions to help them deliver holistic care that meets the needs of their patients (Rogers & Wattis, 2015).  Religion impacts diet, dressing, education, and procedure followed at birth and death. Growing up in a Christian based family has increased the tolerance of other people’s religion and opinions. The tolerance is essential because the United States has diverse people and religions which creates a need for cultural training and outreach (Cantey et al., 2017). Lastly, all through my life, I have come to understand that a holistic approach is achieved when one looks at themselves first and then improves their cultural knowledge through education and interaction.

Looking at various nursing theories, the one that aligns with my philosophy is self-care nursing theory. The theory was proposed by Dorothea Orem and it teaches nurses to help patients become self-sufficient and responsible for their care (Smith & Parker, 2015). The

premises of the theory are that people should be aware of their health problems to enhance self-care.  Orem defines self-care as the actions that one takes freely and deliberately to maintain life, health, and well-being. One has to follow a two-step nursing process to achieve self-care and the first one is identifying and prioritizing the unmet self-care needs of a patient (Smith & Parker, 2015). The second step is choosing the best method that would allow the patient to compensate or overcome their self-care deficits. The theory matches my philosophy since I intend to promote, advocate and educate patients on good health practices and disease awareness. Educating the patients will enhance their awareness on health problems and thus they will be able to make the right decisions that mitigate their problems.

Going through the paper will reveal that the personal philosophy surrounds compassion and care. It is essential to not only cater to the physical needs of the patients but also handle their emotional needs (Del Piccolo et al., 2017).  As a nurse, I interact with chronically ill patients who have profound emotional needs that require immediate recognition and handling by a health professional. The personal philosophy and the self-care theory comes in handy when addressing the emotional needs of patients because they help in building a rapport and trust. The two ensure that I engage patients in topics about their interests and life while handling their health needs. By engaging them they become emotionally competent and can cope with their problems. To maximize my potential I have to undertake serious research in health problems presented by the patients. Most of these chronically ill patients suffer from lifestyle diseases that have been indicated to increase the mortality levels in the United States. The realization creates a need to ensure that the health care system is not treatment oriented but rather concentrates on population health (Jaarsma, Cameron,  Riegel & Stromberg, 2017).  Both the self-care theory and person philosophy support this move because they all aim at ensuring that patients understand their health problems and make lifestyle choices that reduce morbidity levels.

In conclusion, the nursing theory and worldview will be instrumental in the future nursing career. They will help in overcoming the series of demands that most nurse face when providing care. The demands are high-pressure situations, a constant flow of physically challenging work and long hours (Newbanks, Rieg, & Schaefer, 2018). The ability to recognize a personal philosophy and establish a nursing theory means that I have the motivation to overcome the nursing demands and stay in touch with what drives my career. Most people struggle to find personal meaning all their lives but with an already established philosophy, one can rediscover their passion for work, inspire people around them and achieve new goals. Lastly, the future practice is expected to revolve around promoting, educating and advocating for disease awareness and the personal philosophy and nursing theory will offer the needed motivation and ascertain success in the practice.

If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
