Assignment: Ethical Concerns Essay
Assignment Ethical Concerns Essay
In scenario six of the provided list, a 12-year-old girl who has not undertaken HPV vaccine comes to the clinic for a routine check. As a result, it becomes important to undertake subjective questioning as well as physical examination in order to check for symptomatology and predisposing factors for HPV. Thus, the purpose of the present paper is to examine the important aspects of assessment that will reveal the presence of HPV as well as the ethical considerations given that the patient is deeply religious.
Health Assessment and Diagnosis Narrative
The 12-year-old girl presented to the health facility for HPV check-up needs to be examined to rule out the presence of the virus. Several considerations are taken into account including past medical history to ascertain whether the client had at one time contracted the infection or has been vaccinated on the same (Perkins et al., 2016). One of the most important health information needed from the girl is on the number of sexual partners she has had before reporting for HPV check-up. This information is necessary to determine whether she is sexually active and to track her intimacy within the last eight months.
The girl will also be required to report a history of Pap tests and if she has been screened for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The information availed will help establish the reproductive health of the client to ascertain the behavioral practices that can predispose her to HPV. In the meantime, a physical examination will be conducted for the client. Particularly, the care provider will undertake a visual examination of the genitalia for the girl. Most importantly, papular lesions along the perineal area will be examined (Forster et al., 2015). Also, flesh-colored spots and warts in the genitalia region will provide information required for a diagnosis of HPV.
The client will also be asked about her knowledge of HPV and awareness about specific behaviors that can predispose one to the infections. Tracking the awareness of the patient help in the planning of care in case she contracts the infection. It will also be imperative to assess her general practice if she has the correct information about remedies against the HPV infection. In addition, her knowledge about the HPV condition helps in developing a follow-up plan in the event that she is enrolled for an intervention program when diagnosed with the condition.
A Narrative of the Ethical Considerations
The human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infection with the United States of America recording about 14 million newly diagnosed cases annually. HPV can readily spread through skin-to-skin contacts during sexual engagements with an infected person. Most people especially those who engage in sexual intercourse are susceptible to the infection at one point in their lives which necessitates a preventive mechanism. Research studies by Rutten et al. (2017) indicate that the HPV vaccine can be safe and effective in the management of the condition. However, concerns on the use of the virus in children have raised ethical issues especially with an argument that the intervention can motivate the teenagers to engage actively in sexual intercourse.

According to the World Health Organizations (WHO) recommendations, females between the ages of 9 and 13 should receive at least three vaccination schedules of HPV. This is a preventive measure against HPV condition considering that the aforementioned
ages are critical as children become curious about sex and are likely to experiment the act. In reality, about 7% of young adults aged 12 to 13 are presumed to take part in sexual activities (Rutten et al., 2017). Besides, by the time the adolescent turns 19 years, it is anticipated that about 71% of the group will have had sexual intimacy with more than one partner. A study by Perkins et al. (2016) indicates that 11% of the teenagers especially those in high school have had sexual intimacy with four or more partners. Due to the early exposure to sexual intercourse, the teenagers require a series of preventive mechanism for safe and long-term reproductive health. A complete three-shot series of the HPV vaccine enhances a greater immune response to protect the teenagers throughout their sexual life (Forster et al., 2015). Moreover, administration of the vaccine at a prime age when the adolescents are sexually active helps to build higher antibody and this facilitates in fighting the infection even at advanced stages in life.
In the case presented, the parents are more concerned about the sexual engagement of their 12-year-old girl upon receiving the HPV vaccine as opposed to the benefit in providing immunity. The concerns of the parents are justified as they value the future life of their child (Perkins et al., 2016). However, they need to be educated about the benefit of the vaccine as a remedy to contracting the infection at late ages for their girl. It is important for the parents to be informed that their child can still contract the infection even if she abstains from sexual intercourse until marriage. This can happen when she joins matrimony with a man having the virus and if both have had on earlier vaccination. In a cohort study by Forster et al. (2015), there is no clinical evidence that links HPV vaccination to active sexual behavior among teenagers. Guided by this argument, the perceived immoral behavior for the girl in the case study are unwarranted. However, as an advanced practice nurse, the rights of the family should be respected with regard to the treatment of their child since the client in the case study is not yet an adult and her choices cannot override the parental decisions. Besides, I should also take into account the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of Children to inform the girl about the value of the HPV vaccination to enable her to make decisions about her future reproductive health. Nonetheless, even if the WHO recommends administration of HPV vaccines to young female from nine years, informed consent should be issued to seek the permission of the recipients.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. I advise you look at the requirements for these assignments at the beginning of the course and plan accordingly. I have posted the YouTube link that explains all the class assignments in detail. It is required that you watch this 32-minute video as the assignments from week 3 through 5 require that you follow the instructions to the letter to succeed. Failure to complete these assignments according to instructions might lead to a zero. After watching the video, please schedule a one-on-one with me to discuss your topic for your project by the second week of class. Use this link to schedule a 15-minute session. Please, call me at the time of your appointment on my number. Please note that I will NOT call you.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.
Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
