However, you may be much more familiar with one of its well-known phrases: “No man is an island…”.

As you begin your journey toward achieving your academic and professional goals, you have a great opportunity to network with academics and professionals who can help ensure you do not travel alone. This network can help to clarify your own vision for success and can help guide you now and in the future. To paraphrase Donne, no one is an island.

Begin creating an academic and professional network by identifying which academic and professional connections and resources with which you need to collaborate to succeed in your MSN program and as a practicing nurse. NURS 6003 Part 1 Developing an Academic and Professional Network

First of all, I want to say how much I appreciate your dedication to a field of medicine that, in my opinion, could use so much more funding, resources, and awareness put into it. Although I do think the awareness has definitely increased in the last few years, I still feel like it is an area where so many patients can so easily fall through the cracks, and go without the treatment and help that they need. A part of this, I feel, is due to the overwhelming amount of people who do truly suffer with mental health issues. It’s not something anyone should be ashamed of, and I hope as more people express that very truth, it will become more of a supported and funded field of medicine, and patients are able to have the resources that they require more readily available to them through outpatient and inpatient facilities. I don’t express my opinions in any way shape or form to act as though I know more about this field, as a nurse. I express these opinions as someone who has had many people, family and friends, in my life, suffering from mental health issues. I truly am grateful that there are dedicated healthcare workers, as yourself, who are passionate about helping those struggling with mental health. I respect and thank you for embarking on this graduate journey to become a practitioner in a field that could truly use your compassion and dedication.
