In reviewing the last eight weeks, how do you feel about your skill level in regards to APA format? How prepared are you now in comparison to the beginning of class to effectively use APA format throughout the program? How will you continue to develop your understanding and use of APA format as you progress throughout the program?

Coming into this class I felt like I knew how to use APA format correctly. During the first couple weeks of discussion posts and the initial papers, I made some errors that I know I also made during my BSN program, but were not corrected or counted against my score. I feel during this course I learned some valuable resources to use to ensure that I am following the correct formatting rules, specifically around the reference page and in-text citations. Reflecting on the overall course, I feel that I started as an adequate user of APA formatting, and now on the verge of completing the class, I would like to think that I am using APA at an expert level. I have learned a lot of valuable information through discussion posts and responses from my peers, and instructor feedback on correct formatting. I have received some very good feedback and knowledge in this course that will help me continue to improve and use correct APA formatting and great resources to ensure that I am using appropriate formatting throughout my MSN journey.

I have used APA style 6th edition during my BSN program however I did not encounter any trouble using it but that was while back
and I did not used it again until after starting this program. Now I have a better understanding of the importance of using proper format, especially for the MSN program moreover, I realized that after this course that all future courses will follow the same educational path requiring correct and relevant format/citation/reference. Moving forward I will put more emphasis on using the APA format 7th edition and proper citation for I don’t want to lose paints unnecessarily or worse have my work flagged for plagiarism. I believe that I have gotten a little better thus far and will strive to improve with every assignment. Thanks for all your feedback.

APA format is not completely new to me, but it has been several years since I have had to use it. It is not difficult, and I find it surprisingly easy to jump back into using it. I was recently speaking with a colleague about APA, and they said it was difficult for them because they are used to MLA format. I think that it would be more difficult to switch from using one format to another. I have always used APA. There are many great resources available to follow and refer to for questions that come up. I like how the GCU portal has many resources, and I have bookmarked the ones that I use most frequently. It is also very helpful that there is a template available for writing papers. The quiz in this class helped me with my APA format also. It helped build my confidence because I knew a lot of the answers, but I also learned from some of the other questions. One item I learned was in regards to citing and referencing works with the same author. I feel much more prepared now in comparison to the beginning of the class. I will continue to develop my understanding and use of APA format as I progress throughout the program writing more papers and utilizing different kinds of sources.

I feel much more confident with the APA format now. Honestly, I was scared for the whole semester because I had no idea what I was doing it. I just prayed and remembered to study and submit my assignments to get a decent grade. The last eight weeks have been fruitful, and I learned much from this class. I wish you could give us more feedback on APA formatting. I hope we have guidelines or pointers on APA aside from the Purdue APA lab etc., given to us so the next course will be smoother. I had no idea about APA formatting when I started my course. When I started, I had a challenging time understanding the formatting, but GCU writing center helped me to get an idea and I started using GCU templates for my assignments. It was a process of learning APA formatting, citing the resources, and in-text citation. It was a new experience for me. I have learned a lot about APA formatting through my feedback and from my mistakes. Now I know how to apply the APA format, but I am still not an expert. I will more focus on my mistakes and will try my level best to learn more about APA formatting.

My APA skill levels have improved compared to the beginning of the class. In the past eight weeks, I have learned several critical elements that make up the APA formatting style. I feel more prepared to effectively use APA in my assignments and projects throughout the program. Currently, the APA usability has not been very complex; however, I look forward to implementing elements such as long quotations, which incorporate quotes, publication years, and page numbers. I would love proper organization for all my assignments and projects, which would be efficiently achieved using the APA formatting style. Once understood, the APA writing style is easy to use and guarantees order in a learning or research setting.
As I progress through the program, I anticipate increasing my knowledge and use of APA, particularly where several elements must be incorporated. For large projects, several header levels are, for instance, mandatory to keep a good flow and organization. Thus, I anticipate utilizing all listed APA elements. I look forward to increasing my understanding by referencing other critical and print sources, such as electronic sources like periodicals, online news articles, and audiovisual media. Also, citing figures, tables, and power presentations are critical to enhancing knowledge and familiarity with the APA format. Another essential and rarely used element of the APA that I would like to explore is citing non-print sources such as interviews, conference presentations, and personal communication. Besides, I am ready to incorporate any modifications, given that APA styles have changed over time. The current APA edition is the seventh.

Using Patricia Benner’s novice to expert model, I would rank myself as an advanced beginner. I have learned the basics of APA format and learned from my mistakes. When I started this program, I had no clue about how to write papers in APA format and I was quite nervous doing it. I am not a good writer and online learning has also been a challenge for me but, it became easier as we move on week by week. I am prepared to use the APA format for the next few classes, though I could still face some errors throughout, this course has helped me realize and use appropriate resources in regard to APA format. I will continue to use GCU’s resources as I move on to the next course.

Coming into this course, I have not used the APA format before except for learning some of the basics in my introductory course for graduate studies. It was a shorter 4-week course so we only wrote one paper. I am a graduate of a foreign nursing school way back in 1996 and writing papers was not part of our curriculum nor do we write using strict formatting rules. Hence, learning the APA format was more challenging for me than it would be for others in this class. The most difficult part of the APA writing format for me is citing sources and it still is. I have learned a lot during these 8 weeks and I feel more confident in using the APA format as I move forward with my journey in graduate school. Again, I cannot thank you enough for the feedback that I receive and for pointing out all the tiny details that I keep missing all throughout this course. It helped me make more conscious effort not to commit the same mistakes again. It is still far from perfect but I feel like I have definitely improved in comparison to how I was at the beginning of this course.

I feel that my APA skills have increased drastically. Coming into graduate school, writing papers and using correct APA format was what I was most nervous about. In my undergraduate, I utilized APA 6th edition, and I did not know how much has changed. During the first couple weeks of class, I found myself making mistakes because I was utilizing resources from APA 6th edition. Since then, I have become very comfortable with the format and have avoided making too many mistakes. I feel that I am much more prepared to utilize correct APA formatting now. In fact, I think I could currently format a paper without any APA resources better than I could have while utilizing resources in the beginning of this class. Throughout this program, I hope to keep building my knowledge of APA formatting. I hope to get to the point where I don’t feel the need to double-check my in-text citations and reference list. As a future nurse educator, I want to master APA so I can be a resource for future students.

In the beginning I was hesitant about my ability to follow APA guidelines when writing my papers. But along the way I felt more confident base of the feedback that I obtained. I still have more improvement to make , but I can say I’m getting better . Following APA guidelines it’s crucial for student during academic performances. You don’t want to be involved in anything that will affect your future. Also will all the tools provided by GCU , and our Professor interactions with class has been a tremendous help . Currently, the New York State Legislature is considering several bills impacting healthcare delivery in the state. One bill, A2358, would create a new Office of the Patient Advocate within the Department of Health to help patients navigate the healthcare system and ensure they receive high-quality care (Woolf, 2022). The proposed legislation would also set maximum ratios for different units, meaning that nurses would have a clearer idea of how many patients they would be responsible for at any given time. This could lead to improved patient care, as nurses would have more time to spend with each individual. It could also help to reduce nurse burnout, as nurses would not be spread so thinly. Another key issue being considered is mandatory overtime. The legislation would end the practice of requiring nurses to work beyond their scheduled shift if insufficient staff members are unavailable. This would provide much-needed relief for nurses who are often forced to work long hours, and it could help to improve patient safety by ensuring that nurses are well rested and not working excessive hours (Bourgault, 2022). These are just some ways the proposed healthcare legislation could impact nursing in New York State. As the debate continues, it will be interesting to see which pieces of legislation are ultimately passed and what effect they will have on nursing practice.
As a nurse in New York, it is essential to stay updated on the latest healthcare legislation that is being considered by lawmakers (Brown et al., 2022). This legislation would allow me to have one compact license valid in all participating states. This would make it easier for me to practice in multiple states and could lead to increased job opportunities. Moreover, advocating for the healthcare profession is essential to ensuring that quality care is available to patients. In my future practice, I see myself potentially becoming involved in political advocacy to ensure that the healthcare profession has a strong voice in the political arena. There are many ways in which I could become involved, such as working with local or state representatives to promote legislation that supports the healthcare profession or working with national organizations to develop public policy initiatives. Regardless of the specific role I play, I believe that it is essential for me to use my platform as a healthcare provider to help shape the conversation around healthcare reform and advocate for policies that will improve patient care.
