Hi Shinu! Both quantitative and qualitative research methods have different qualities. Using mixed research methods plays an important role in the nursing field. We use the research to have a better understanding of ways to improve the care we provide to our patients. Both together gives us better insight than they would alone.

Good points on your decussion question. I think both is needed especially it the nursing field for research we just it everyday to get verified answers to questions. It is need to determine if a method is working like turning a patient every 2 hours is helpful for preventing skin Breakdown or for research on ensure a new drug us working for blood pressure. When choosing a mixed methods design for a study, researchers should consider the research problem to be studied. A primary consideration is that the design should match the research problem. In addition, researchers should evaluate their own expertise and consider the quantitative and qualitative skills that they possess. If they lack expertise with certain methods e.g., quantitative survey skills or collection of qualitative field notes, they should consider working in a team or selecting a design that does not emphasize that method. Consideration must also be given to the available resources, such as the length of time available to complete the study.

Hi Shinu, I appreciate your explanation of the advantages of mixed-method of utilizing both qualitative and quantitative studies. One study I found that was a great example of how mixed-method is used in the research was, Combining research and design: A mixed-methods approach aimed at understanding and optimizing inpatient medication storage systems. In this research, they combined qualitative and quantitative research methods as they explored how hospitals can prevent medication errors by using better medication storage systems. They used the quantitative method by taking descriptive surveys of storage facilities and then they used the qualitative method to observe medication administrating and interview staff and patients (Wheeler et al., 2021). This type of research method seems very holistic to me as it combines subjective and objective material to give a better understanding.

I think there are great advantages and disadvantages to both types of research and I think the application of using mixed methods like you said is very important to try and get benefits from both while trying to minimize disadvantages. Qualitative is one type that i think has a great advantage of being able to distribute surveys to many participants (Noyes et al., 2019). This can be helpful because quantitative can have issues related to budget and being able to have an overall increase in data collection. It is important that researchers have a lot of data to help increase the impact of their results.
