Alesha The job that I would like to do would be the 2019-2020 Elementary School Teacher, https://www.careerbuilder.com/jobs?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=elementary+school +teacher&location=virginia. (Links to an external site.) Five skills that I have learned while taking the general education classes that would help with this career field would first be the speech class. This class also helped with increasing my writing skills, too. This is very important as a teacher. Learning how to effectively communicate is extremely important when being a teacher. I would also say the English courses too would help in this career field. Not only do teachers communicate with students, but also with parents, other faculty, and professionals. Teachers must also know how to write in order to teach the students how to write. Ethics and moral reasoning is another skill that I have learned from the general education courses. Teachers have to have good ethics along with good morals. They are role models for children and teach these children about these areas too. Critical thinking is the fourth skill that has been important to this career field. Students and parents will have many different situations and teachers have to find ways to resolve those issues. This could be in between classmates or parents with their children. The last skill that I would say I have obtained would be good time management from the general education courses. I have a very busy life and as a teacher I know that it will continue. I have had to effectively manage doing physical training in the morning, then showering, then instructing all day, then my next job starts as a mother and all that entails, and doing homework as I’m getting through the courses. My day starts at 0345 and doesn’t end until 10 pm most days. The newly acquired knowledge and skills that I have obtained have helped both professionally and personally. The most important skill would public speaking in the speech course. I honestly do not like public speaking at all but I do it everyday. The more speech courses that I take the better teacher I become. The better communicator I can become. The other area that has helped out greatly would be the English courses and writing skills. I have had to write many lesson plans, study guides, power points in my job. This will continue throughout my life both professionally and personally. To put my education to use in the community I will eventually become a teacher. I will be working in public school somewhere in the Northeast area of the United States. I will be giving back to the whole community by teaching the next generation of children. References Ashford University. (n.d.).
