Title: Recommendations Presented in The IOM Report Response

Description

Social Determinants of Health

The recommendations presented in the IOM report concentrate on the crucial convergence between the health needs of the diverse, lifespan-long shifting medical specialties and the behavior of the healthcare industry. Via the achievements nurses can consider making to deliver patient care; these guidelines are expected to assist initiatives to strengthen the quality of life of the population in the United States. The paper aims at discussing the IOM report and its effectiveness in Florida.

The first IOM guideline recommends that to the full scope of practice and learning, nurses must operate. Secondly, an enhanced education system should encourage nurses’ continuous academic advancement to reach higher levels of education and training. Nurses should be equal collaborators in the modernization of health care in the United States, alongside doctors and other health professionals (“Future of Nursing IOM report | Academic Progression”, 2020). Finally, there should be improved data management and information system that need effective workforce planning and management making.

In promoting the healthcare workforce, the Florida Action Alliance seeks to continue providing leadership so that Floridians may enjoy healthy, high-quality health care. The mission is for all Floridians to have access to the highest, healthy, and patient-centered treatment in a health care system in which nurses produce positive outcomes as key stakeholders. Florida lawmakers are making crucial progress in pushing the medical profession ahead, introducing legislation that will enable Florida to enforce the guidelines stated in the Institute of Medicine’s landmark report (De Biasi, et al.,2020).This increases access to Florida residents’ medical care, an area because there is an increasing shortage of healthcare professionals for physicians. With the dedication of the Florida Action Alliance, the FNA, and other nursing specialty groups, I think that the IMO recommendation can only be facilitated through the advocacy efforts of RNs and ARNPs.

2. Recommendations for Change in Nursing

The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health” is a report that thoroughly examines the nursing staff for potential improvement areas. The report provides essential references specifically for the grave connection between various health wants, altering patient populaces, life, and the nursing labor force’s activities. The purpose of the recommendations is to support efforts to augment the American population’s health by improving nursing care abilities. Therefore, this study assesses the coalition of Florida with the reports’ proposals and necessary elements needed to incorporate the recommendations by the Institute of Medicine (IOM).

The IOM Report recommends four significant changes. These include, nurses should exercise to the complete grade of their instruction, nurses should go through a robust scholastic system that would improve their teaching and practice to endorse a unified scholastic advancement, nurses should be complete associates approved to surgeons including other prescription-providing professionals within the medical domain, in reforming health care in America, and the actual staff development and program headway need advanced data gathering and information structure (Palatnik, 2016; Farmer et al., 2017). Florida State examines the report, which is intended to function as an outline for vicissitudes in the nursing vocation and the health care provision scheme and incorporates other changes to accommodate the recommendations.

The nurses in Florida implemented various cooperative schemes that have helped them make the needed change towards the suggested changed in the IOM Report. The legislators in Florida made key paces in pushing the nursing occupation onward during the first 2016 judicial conference by approving draft laws meant to ease the implementation of the suggested changes in the momentous documentation put forth by the IOM (Palatnik, 2016). The state of Florida passed a few laws that pertain to the recommendations. Additionally, there have also be discussions within the medical system referencing the leadership roles of nurses; these talks played a significant role in convincing poly-makers to adopt IOM recommendations.

By passing the prescribed act of ARNP, nurses can now prescribe controlled substances, thus improving their roles and responsibilities (Fray & Sherman, 2017). The law is especially beneficial for Florida since there is an increasing shortage of initial physician caregivers. Through its Florida Action Coalition, the state works with various nurses to augment proper medical care at sound costs. Florida has embraced their nurses as leaders by lawfully allowing them to participate in the decision-making process for a better-redesigned healthcare structure by serving on the “Florida Action Coalition Board Service Initiative for Emerging Nurse Leaders” (Farmer et al., 2017). Additionally, Florida remains one of the states with most powerful nursing education funding programs with four universities receiving Advanced Education Nursing Grants (Fray & Sherman, 2017). Education is the foundation of best practices in any profession, including health care.

Conclusively, Florida has made positive progress towards meeting the IOM recommendations. The state allows nurses to engage to their optimal scope of instruction and practice, enhances their education through various scholarship programs, enables the experts to become full partners in redesigning healthcare, and robust planning for the diminished labor force using their collected information’s infrastructure. More leadership and resources are available within the state to develop more nurses and recognize nurse leaders who are integral in their health care setup. Notably, nurses are a fundamental part of the healthcare system that can be especially helpful and beneficial in relieving the piling physician responsible for a more enhanced healthcare outcome.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
