Ethical principles are common guidelines that protect the rights of patients and healthcare professionals in the healthcare setting. Advanced practice nursing is guided by codes of ethics that consider care and patient safety the central issues. Informed consent is the decision-making process involving patients being treated, for example, those treated for mental illnesses. This ethical principle requires psychiatric nurses to allow the patients to understand the type of treatment to be offered to patients (Levine et al 2022). Informed consent provides information to adult patients regarding their patients and the recommended treatment plan.

The main area addressed is the informed consent of children, adolescents and adults in a mental or psychotherapy setup. These articles are focused on the application of informed consent in undertaking PMHNP care (Schulz, 2018). As such, the attitude of the medical staff and the nurse practitioners on these ethical issues related to informed consent are addressed in the selected articles. The reasons and justifications for informed consent on a particular group of patients have also been addressed in the articles.
The articles collectively discuss a wide scope of ethical consent on various populations that had been discussed in class. The informed consent for children is different from that of adolescents (Sherwood& Parsons, 2021). While the parents take charge of the decision involving mental treatment offered to a child, an adolescent who is eighteen years and above can decide on the treatment they would need (Levine et al., 2022). Also, the situation for adults would change as they must know their treatment and agree with the offered treatment through informed consent (Smartt et al., 2019).
