NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style

Sample Answer for NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style Included After Question

How does leadership style affect change?

No two leaders are the same, and no one leader can be effective for all issues. Leadership can be described by style, skills, and qualities. One leader may be incredibly effective in dealing with one issue or environment and struggle with a different issue or in a different environment. This struggle does not make the leader a poor leader, rather this illustrates that the style, skills, and qualities needed for a leader can vary based on the issue, environment, stakeholders, or other factors.

For this Discussion, you will consider your leadership style and the impact of this style on the implementation. Consider what leadership style, skills, and qualities are needed for the implementation, and evaluate how your particular style aligns with the needs of the implementation.

Title: NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style

Being a leader in the best of times can be difficult.  It may be difficult for nurses to decide which of the many leadership philosophies that are accessible will be most helpful in their everyday work. Healthcare could benefit from a technique called transformational leadership. A good leader listens to their staff and using a transformational leadership style will assist in implementing the proposed change. The idea that employees need a feeling of mission and purpose to be able to work effectively, which goes beyond earning praise or a reward for effective performance, is at the heart of transformational leadership (Collins et al., 2020). A key component of transformational leadership is creating an environment that encourages employees to be productive and innovative team members.

In order to strengthen their public health education initiatives, health professionals must update their knowledge. This necessitates the dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge through a variety of traditional and online evidence-based formats (Marin-Paz, et. al., 2021). As I disseminate results transformational leadership will look at ways to incorporate the change in small increments to not overwhelm the clinic staff. I will present the information at the staff meeting and then follow up with a survey monkey to gauge their level of understanding or if anything in the teaching content needs to be revised to make the implementation run smoothly.

When exploring diverse types of leadership styles, I see that it takes a strong person who can adapt to situations and be an analytical person/problem solver. While leadership style can influence the choice of conflict management strategy, leadership skills are crucial for clinical decision-making. For a leader, it is important to learn and practice good leadership, and conflict management skills (Alnajjar & Abou Hashish, 2022). Nurse educators play a critical role in reading the room and have evidence-based solutions to combat insubordination. think having the learning material having a voice-over recording is one solution to a person’s thought that they do not have time to participate in the nonpharmacological sleep measures education. I plan to place a recording of the staff education on the group’s google drive for follow-up reference to negate time constraints.

A transformational leader listens to the needs of the healthcare team and recognizes that not everyone responds to one leadership style (Harvey et. al., 2020). If there is a pushback to implement the change, I will have to have the support of the mentor I have at the clinical site as the leader has a history with the staff. This leader is a democratic leader and I have learned from her how to communicate with the staff in a way that all concerns are acknowledged, and it is nice to have support in my corner.

Title: NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style

I agree with you that being a leader may be complex. Leaders are expected to choose from various leadership theories the most suitable leadership theory that will grant the organization the desired outcome. Healthcare sector changes constantly. Therefore, it is expected that transformational leadership will be suitable in guiding organization to implement the proposed change. Transformational leaders influence and inspire their followers to be productive (Asbari, 2020). These nurse leaders listen to their staffs.  Integrating people opinions show that nurses are also part of the decision-making process. Therefore, nurses may not wish to frustrate transformational leadership. Transformational leadership acknowledges the ability of nurses and stakeholders in facilitating successful implementation of the proposed change (Abu-Rumman, 2021). However, as transformational leaders take a forefront in implementing change there are challenges that threaten a successful implementation of the proposed change.

Title: NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style

In the previous stages of the project, I have identified facilitators, barriers, additional resources, and speed bumps and pitfalls that can impair the implementation of the educational intervention. However, an effective leadership style is needed to overcome all the barriers, speed bumps, and pitfalls. Ford et al. (2021) assert that leadership significantly impacts change implementation. Leadership has the role of addressing various problems and situations encountered during change, resulting in favorable implementation outcomes (Farahnak et al., 2020)

Transformational Leadership Styles Needed to Implement the Proposed Change

The proposed change is to ensure that nurses fully participate in the training program to enhance their knowledge and awareness of hospital-acquired pressure ulcer (HAPU) prevention techniques. Therefore, transformational leadership is a leadership style that can inspire positive changes in those who follow. As the most appropriate leadership style, transformational leadership is crucial in this case to stimulate and inspire followers to achieve extraordinary outcomes (Farahnak et al., 2020). Transformational leadership is needed to empower the nurses by aligning the objectives and goals of the training, the leader, the group, and the larger organization (Bianchi et al., 2018).

Qualities of Transformational Leadership Styles

Transformational leadership has several qualities. As a transformational leader, I believe being visionary is crucial to implementing the proposed change. Visioning is characterized by creating a vision, aim, purpose, direction, possible plan, and strategy for achieving the goal. Through visionary quality,  a transformational leader engages people in their accomplishments and initiates revisions as new situations arise and new information becomes available (Behrendt et al., 2017). As a transformational leader, I am confident in being visionary and able to differentiate and integrate work to accomplish the vision, planning for, acquiring, providing, and utilizing material resources. As a visionary leader, I can remove obstacles that may impair the change process and generate new solutions to the problems (Bianchi et al., 2018).

Transformational leadership should also include posse collaboration and social integration qualities. Social Integration is concerned with maintaining and enhancing the collaboration of personnel resources to support the implementation of the change (White et al., 2011). As a transformational leader, I have promoted cooperation among the project team, enhanced a favorable climate, engaged the team, and supported their participation and contribution (Behrendt et al., 2017).

Regarding how the transformational leadership style connects with how I will disseminate the results, I believe that transformational leadership has idealized influence and can be trusted and respected by the followers to make good decisions for the organization. A transformational leader can establish strong relationships. All strong relationships rely on honest and transparent communication and the ability to disseminate the results (Castiglione & Lavoie-Trembley, 2021). The Ability of a transformational leader to forge relationships within a team helps reduce internal conflicts (Farahnak et al., 2020). Further, a transformational leader serves as an ideal influence. A transformational leader walks the walk and, therefore, earns the trust and respect of the project team to support the dissemination of the results.

Additional support for implementation

The proposed change requires additional support, such as incentives. It’s important to provide rewards to people for adopting change. It is crucial to provide clear communication of such benefits, such as free lunch and transport during the implementation of change. Ongoing feedback is another additional support that provides both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Finally, the other additional support includes resources and organizational support such as information technology and the internet for participants to use during the training (Castiglione & Lavoie-Trembley, 2021).

Title: NURS 6053 Discussion Leadership Style

Thickness I agree with you that an effective leadership style should eliminate barriers and pitfalls. Unfortunately, eliminating all hindrance to achieving the desired outcome may be a tedious process to most leaders. Incompetent leaders who ignore some challenges are exposed to failed organizational performance. Leaders take a critical part in decision-making process. Therefore, most healthcare organizations employ seasoned senior workers to be leaders. Experienced leaders have actual information and experience (Kotamena et al., 2020). Thus, having productive aged leaders is challenging due to their vulnerability to various health complications. Transformational leader fits change implementation process. The leader understand people can transform as a way of reinventing.  Still, the reinvention is expensive and a process that receive mixed reactions (Siangchokyoo et al., 2020).  Transformational leaders take adequate time to listen their followers. These leaders minimize the chance of making a wrong mistake when they consult.  Regrettably, some leaders due to their status and authority cannot allow consultation.
