Sample Answer for NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice Included After Question
March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
- Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
- Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
- Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
By Day 3 of Week 1
Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
By Day 6 of Week 1
Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by visiting the websites they shared and offering additional examples of EBP or alternative views/interpretations to those shared in your colleagues’ posts.

Title: NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice
The health care organization that I have chosen to review, is one that I recently became a member of. The American Association for Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is an organization that aims to empower all NPs to advance quality health care through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2020)
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is defined by Duke University Medical Center, as the integration of clinical expertise, patient values, and the best research evidence into the decision-making process for patient care. (Duke University Medical Center Library and Archives, 2020) According to Melnyk (2018), EBP strategies allow NPs and other health care providers to translate research findings into clinical practice. (Melnyk, 2018) With the values that the AANP stands for, this organization’s work is grounded in EBP. Being a member of the AANP I receive updates via email and alerts covering the latest information and findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
I can not say that my findings one the AANP website has changed my perspective, because I researched the organizations prior to joining for the relevancy of information that would be provided pertaining to my future studies. I must express how happy I am having a membership with the AANP. I have access to many articles and scholarly journals with the latest EBP updates.

Title: NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice
Globally various health care professionals are aware that evidence-based practice (EBP) improves healthcare quality, reliability, and patient outcomes and reduces care and cost (Melkyn et al., 2014). In the nursing field, EBP is instilled early on in our educational careers, and encouragements to continually cite or use the most current evidence-based practices for care are frequently provided. It is due to this dedication; that the profession of nursing has been a leader in catalyzing the adoption of EBP and using it as a marker of excellence(Stevens, 2013). However, EBP not only impacts nursing care but health organizations as a whole. Niklaus Children’s Hospital has a detailed section relating to nursing publications and innovations, which details the hospital’s reliance on EBP.
For instance, Miami Children’s encourages nurses to initiate or use Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) protocols to process improvements to nursing care and nursing research throughout the organization independently. Niklaus Children’s Hospital integrates evidence-based best practices and nursing research into clinical and operational processes to align with the Nursing Department’s commitment to provide high-quality care associated with positive patient outcomes. Therefore EBP plays a significant role in the health care organization’s distribution of patient-centered care and on their expectation of nursing professionals. Having discerned the importance of EBP to Niklaus Children Hospital has shifted my perception in a positive direction and reassured me that patient care is meeting the most up to date standards and policies.

Title: NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice
I have thoroughly read your discussion post. EBP is the explicit, accurate, and conscientious utilization of existing best proof in decisions on the care of the patient. It means integrating individual clinical expertise in an organized study with the effective external clinical evidence available. Over time EBP has evolved to incorporate the best evidence from the study, scientific experience, patient principles, and situations and the features of the healthcare profession. It is not just about having the strongest data of the science for the decision-making, but also about the knowledge, expertise, and preparation they have as a healthcare worker, taking the status and beliefs of the individual into consideration (e.g., social interest, financial situation) and the nature of the profession (e.g., minimal financial resources) under which they operate. This process is known as clinical reasoning for integrating all of this information. If they consider all of these four factors in such a way that they can decide on a patient’s care, people get an EBP (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2011).

Title: NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice being brought to the bedside is best done by bedside healthcare workers, especially nurses (James, et. al, 2020). It is fantastic that the children’s hospital in Miami has such a strong basis in EBP. It is great to find a hospital that has protocols based on the most up to date research. Most hospitals should be encouraged to use evidence-based practices as they are known to lower costs, improve patient outcomes, and improves healthcare quality (Melkyn, et. al, 2020). Your opinion on this organization improving is understandable, as knowing that an organization is basing their protocols in EBP is reassuring, and can make for a better patient experience, as well as a better overall work environment.

Nice post. The strategies of Evidence Based Practice allows other healthcare providers to translate and research findings into clinical practice. Having efficient literature-searching skills and the application of formal rules of evidence in evaluating research findings, providers can apply existing scientific knowledge in their clinical practice for each individual patient. (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2020). This also goes to target, improvement in patient experience, improving health outcomes and decreasing health care costs, and also improving the work life of clinicians and their well-being. It intergrates the best available evidence to guide nursing care and improve patient outcome

Title: NURS 6052 Discussion Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice
It is good to know that you are already a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and using them as one of the resources. It is also relevant to really dig into how they conduct research or may have implemented additional research on the competencies of practicing Advanced Practitioners (AP).
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential component of professional nursing, a crucial competency for healthcare providers, and a basic force in Magnet hospitals and results in better patient outcomes and higher levels of nursing autonomy. Fostering EBP within organizations requires strong infrastructure, including nursing leadership and human and material resources. (Newhouse, Dearholt, Poe, Pugh, & White, 2007).
On the other hand, although it is widely known that evidence-based practice (EBP) improves healthcare quality, reliability, and patient outcomes as well as reduces variations in care and costs, it is still not the standard of care delivered by practicing clinicians across the globe. Adoption of specific EBP competencies for nurses and advanced practice nurses (APN) who practice in real-world healthcare settings can assist institutions in achieving high-value, low-cost evidence-based health care. The aim of this study was to develop a set of clear EBP competencies for both practicing registered nurses and APNs in clinical settings that can be used by healthcare institutions in their quest to achieve high performing systems that consistently implement and sustain EBP. National EBP leaders developed an initial set of competencies for practicing registered nurses and APNs through a consensus-building process. Linking evidence to action incorporation of these competencies into healthcare system expectations, orientations, job descriptions, performance appraisals, and clinical ladder promotion processes could drive higher quality, reliability, and consistency of healthcare as well as reduce costs. Research is now needed to develop valid and reliable tools for assessing these competencies as well as linking them to clinician and patient outcomes. (Melnyk, Gallagher-Ford, Long, & Fineout-Overholt, 2014).
