Part 3: Fact Sheet or Talking Points Brief

HIV infections are a significant public health issue in the US. Approximate 1.2 million persons struggle with HIV, and 1 in 8 people living with HIV are unknown. While recent data indicate that annual HIV infections in the US decreased by 17% between 2008 and 2014, HIV continues to spread. HIV is an avertable disease. The elimination of HIV transmission has shown through successful HIV preventive strategies (Magnus, Castel, & Greenberg, 2015). People who are checked for HIV and discover that they are infected will make significant lifestyle improvements to enhance their safety and reduce the likelihood of HIV infection to their sex partners or drug users. Current technical advances have shown that early origination of “antiretroviral therapy” (ART) not only protects people’s health but also decreases the risk of HIV infection to others through 93% (healthypeople, 2014). 91% of new HIV in the current spread by individuals not infected or treated but not cared for. It should be included in the agenda for legislation. NURS 6050 Assignment Agenda Comparison Grid and Fact Sheet or Talking Points Brief SAMPLE

Nurses have a significant role to play in addressing this issue of health. Different approaches specific to their capacities need at the primary, secondary, and tertiary rates of prevention. Training in avoidance habits takes precedence at the primary level. At the secondary level, when someone has HIV, clinicians will encourage healthy behaviors to survive with the infection (Dumitru, Irwin, & Tailor, 2017). Advising and providing health information and support for physical problems are essential components. At the tertiary level, care practices are much more intensive as it takes precedence over the advancement of the quality of life. It involves helping people overcome catastrophic fears, rage, depression, and deterrence. The actions of nurses towards people infected with HIV are critical throughout the process. If a helping partnership establishes, transparency and a non-judgmental attitude are needed.

RE: Discussion – Week 1
Collapse

Childhood obesity is a rising problem among our nation. I love that you chose to address this topic! Many positive changes were made by the Obama Administration addressing this issue. In 2010, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act went into effect. There are many facets to this Act, but overall it includes significant improvements that will help provide children with healthier and more nutritious food options, educate children about making healthy food choices, and teach children healthy habits that can last a lifetime (“Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act”, 2013). Many kids receive breakfast and lunch at their local school, as this is more than half their meals consumed in the day, it’s important there are healthy options being provided.

As far as President Trump’s agenda on  childhood obesity, it is difficult to find any concrete information about specific things he is addressing on this topic. I found one article talking about how it is a priority for the Office of Community Food Systems to focus on increasing access to local food being provided in schools (USDA, 2020). Of course, this will look different among different communities. It would be interesting to find more specific information on whether President Trump is continuing to hold up the standards of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
