A Sample Answer For the Assignment: NUR 590 Assignment Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer

Title: NUR 590 Assignment Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer

Nurse Leader   Family nurse practitioner   Observations (Similarities/Differences)
Ethics  Nurse leaders must behave in accordance with ethics that govern their practice. They must ensure that principles such as justice, honesty, non-malifecence, and autonomy are upheld when working with others healthcare providers and their organizations. The practice of these values helps nurse leaders in influencing the actions or behaviors of those they lead. Nurse leaders also need to have significant ethical influence on the manner in which they interact with others and their organizations. Through it, they can work collaboratively with them in exploring the diverse ways in which their interests can be met (Stewart & DeNisco, 2019). Therefore, they are the custodians of professional code of ethics in their workplaces as they have greater influence over the decision-making processes used in their institutions.

Family nurse practitioners are a group of professionals that work with individuals from diverse age groups to meet their health needs. They work actively to ensure that the needs and rights of the populations they serve are protected (Stewart & DeNisco, 2019). This includes ensuring that their right to safe, quality, accessible, and affordable care are protected. They also ensure that the codes of ethics that govern their practice are safeguarded. The ethics include the codes of justice, nonmaleficence, autonomy, and beneficence.   Both areas of nursing are guided by similar codes of ethics. However, the populations that each of the professions serves is different. While nurse leaders focus on influencing those they lead and their organizations, family nurse practitioners are involved in providing care to individuals, families, and communities as a whole. The focus of the nurse leaders is on the wellbeing of those they lead such as other nurses and their organizations while family nurse practitioners aim at solving the health needs of individuals of different backgrounds. Therefore, nurse leaders apply their ethics in influencing others while family nurse practitioners apply theirs in caring those in need of healthcare.
Education  Nurse leaders are advanced clinicians that have at least a master’s level education. Graduate level education is mandatory since it provides them with the clinical competence as well as knowledge for decision-making and critical thinking (American Nurses’ Association, 2016). Nurse leaders are licensed by their states to practice and lead interventions in their settings.

It is a mandatory requirement to have a master’s level degree in nursing specialty for one to become a family nurse practitioner. In addition, some family nurse practitioners also have doctoral or professional degrees. Nurses who specialize in this field should be licensed to practice by their state’s bodies that regulate nursing practice.   Both specialties require nurses to have a master’s degree in nursing as a minimum requirement. Individuals in these specialties also require licensing from the state’s regulatory bodies for them to practice as advanced practice nurses in their respective areas of specialization.
Leadership  Leadership is a critical component of nurse leadership role. Nurse leaders are expected to demonstrate exemplary leadership skills when influencing others to embrace the needed interventions. They must act as role models in the adoption of new policies. Nurse leaders must also demonstrate excellence in building the leadership skills of those they lead. Therefore being a leader, nurse leaders should influence the healthcare organizations to embrace interventions that meet the needs of their stakeholders (Schober, 2017)

Family nurse practitioners require leadership skills due to the nature of their work. They require adept leadership knowledge and skills since they lead the practice of evidence-based practice and quality improvement interventions in their settings. They also influence the lifestyles and behaviors of the patients they serve as a way of promoting their health and wellbeing. Family nurse practitioners also influence public health policies. They play a proactive leadership role in ensuring that public policies address the critical health issues facing the population. Therefore, effective leadership skills and knowledge are needed for them to achieve these objectives.   Both nurse leaders and family nurse practitioners use their leadership knowledge and skills to influence healthcare. They use them to ensure that interventions that improve the quality and safety of care are embraced in healthcare organizations. However, the leadership skills of nurse leaders are largely utilized to influence other professionals and policies at institutional levels. In contrast, the leadership skills of family nurse practitioner aim at bringing a change at individual and community level against a health-related issue.
Public Health  Nurse leaders have a critical role to play in the promotion of public health. They ensure that policies that safeguard the interests of the public are embraced (Schober, 2017). They also collaborate with other practitioners to formulate policies that aim at promotion of the health of the public. In addition, they advocate for the prioritization of the health needs of the public in health-related politics.

Family nurse practitioners ensure that the health of the public is protected. They engage in researches that aim at investigating specific health issues affecting the public and ways of addressing them. They also engage in initiatives such as health education and screening of the public to reduce health problems affecting it (Weiss, Tappen & Grimley, 2019). These professionals also work with other healthcare providers in exploring the ways in which optimum health of the public can be promoted through the adoption of policies that address their health needs.   Both professional specializations focus on the adoption of interventions that improve the health of the public. They ensure that policies that promote public health and wellbeing are adopted at the community level.
Health Care Administration  Nurse leaders’ roles in health administration are varied. They ensure that the working conditions promote the provision of quality and safe healthcare in an institution. They also ensure that the needs of the healthcare providers are met. They work collaboratively with other leaders and managers in formulating policies that will influence the quality of care offered in an institution (Murray, 2017). Therefore, they play a critical role in healthcare administration.

Family nurse practitioners play a critical role in healthcare administration. They lead the implementation and evaluation of models of care that can be used to meet the diverse health needs of individuals, families, and communities. They also assess community issues that affect the health of the public. Family nurse practitioners also lead community-targeted initiatives such as campaigns that raise the level of awareness of the public on health issues affecting them. Therefore, their role in healthcare administration is important at both the institutional and community level.   Both nurse leaders and family nurse practitioners have critical roles in relation to healthcare administration at the institutional level. However, family nurse practitioners’ health care administration role also extends to the community settings where they influence the policies adopted to influence health dynamics in a population.
Informatics  The role of informatics in nurse leadership is evident. Nurse leaders utilize informatics in appraising evidence-based leadership practices needed in their institutions. They also use it to ensure that timely care is provided to those in need in the institutions they serve.

Family nurse practitioners utilize informatics in a wide range of areas. One of them is dissemination of health information to the public. They also use it in the appraisal of the available data to guide in the provision of evidence-based care. They also utilize informatics in conducting researches on health issues that affect different communities and ways of addressing them.   Informatics play a critical role in nursing leadership and family nurse practitioners’ professional roles. They use it to influence the quality of care given to those in need. However, the use of informatics among family nurse practitioners is extensive since it includes the investigation of health-related dynamics at individual, family, and community levels.
Business/Finance  Knowledge on business and finance is important for nurse leaders. They use it to explore business opportunities that can be explored for the profitability of their institutions. They also use it in allocating the available resources in a manner that optimizes the output.

Business and finance knowledge is also important for family nurse practitioners. They use it in evaluating the cost-effectiveness of the various models of care that need to be used in meeting the needs of those they serve. They also use it in evaluating the effectiveness of projects that can be utilized to address community health problems.   Nurse leaders and family nurse practitioners use business and finance knowledge to ensure that the existing resources are allocated efficiently to improve the quality of care. While nurse leaders focus on the use of this knowledge at the institution level, family nurse practitioners extend to using it in evaluating community-level interventions.
Specialty (e.g., Family, Acute Care)  Nurse leaders have specialized in a wide range of areas including health systems management, nursing informatics, psychiatry, medical-surgical nursing and acute care among others.

The areas of specialization for family nurse practitioners include adult gerontology, acute care, emergency care, pediatric, and psychiatric among others.    Both nurse leaders and family nurse practitioners have similar areas of specialization. The difference is on their focus after being certified to practice as advanced practice nurses.
Regulatory Bodies or Certification Agencies That Provide Guidance or Parameters on How These Roles Incorporate Concepts Into Practice  Nurse leaders must be accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing that ensures that evidence-based leadership is utilized to ensure safety and quality of care.

Family nurse practitioners are certified after passing the state exam known as NCLEX exam. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing administers the exam and determines one’s eligibility to practice as a family nurse practitioner.   Nurse leaders need accreditation from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing while family nurse practitioners require accreditation from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
