Evidence-Based Practice Evaluation 

Evidence-based project is a continuous process whose results are intended to improve the quality of care offered at various facilities. Evaluating various facets of an EBP project is thus important in determining the significance of a chosen project. In the usage of mindfulness practices to address the issue of burnout among oncology nurses at the TOHC, several areas have been covered. The present paper will seek to evaluate the effectiveness of the project’s outcomes, the proposed data collection methods, strategies to be adopted in the event the outcomes to not work, as well as the implications of the project for future practice and research.  

Rationale for Data Collection Methodology 

The evidence-based project on the usage of mindfulness to improve burnout affecting oncology nurses adopted the usage of surveys to collect data. The application of the survey methodology was important since it would allow for the collection of subjective data from a large number of oncology nurses. Moreover, the data extracted from the survey tool can enable a biostatistician to manipulate it using statistical methodologies (Parsons et al., 2017). Further, the results obtained from the survey results will give the project a larger statistical power while the project will also benefit from the availability of validated models.  

Evaluating The Achievement of Project Objectives 

The outcome data from the project will be based on the effects of the reduction of burnout in nurses at a hospital’s oncology unit. Several parameters and impacts of burnout will be evaluated based on data collection. A comparative analysis between the data collected at the beginning of the project and the one collected at the end of the EBP project can occur (Rush & Sharma, 2017). The reduction of some of the instances such as anxiety, absenteeism, sick leaves and the improvement in some of the parameters such as quality of service, patients’ satisfaction, and nurse satisfaction will demonstrate the achievement of the project objectives.  

Outcome Measurement and Evaluation 

The measurements of the project outcomes will occur in a manner that is founded on assessing the validity of the frameworks and tools adopted for it. The process will be based on assessing the truthfulness of the data collected and its value in guiding the implementation of the project into practice (Pascoe, Thompson, & Ski, 2017). On the other hand, the usage of test-retest method may be employed to determine the uniformity of the outcomes for purposes of testing the project outcome’s reliability. The evaluation of outcomes that will be produced by the pre-test trials will offer a framework for the applicability of the results of the mindfulness based programs in oncology nursing.  

Strategies to Take if Outcomes Don’t Offer Positive Results 

If the project fails to produce the desired results, the original purpose and goals of the project are going to be re-assessed. The emphasis of the re-evaluation will be to alter the variables associated with mindfulness based practices to ensure conformity with the anticipated outcomes (Breedvelt et al., 2019). Moreover, the methodology adopted for the project will also undergo reformulation to ensure that the best design for the project is used.  

Implications for Practice and Future Research 

The outcomes of the project are going to be integrated to health care practice in oncology units so as to manage the existence of nurses working there. The project is expected to improve the satisfaction of nurses, which will improve their quality of care. As such, it is going to be a vital component in formulating a strategy related to ensuring the wellbeing of nurses (Lomas, Medina, Ivtzan, Rupprecht, & Eiroa-Orosa, 2019). Future practice on nurse burnout in oncology units should focus on areas that will ensure that the wellbeing of nurses is addressed. The adoption of evidence-based practice interventions involving variations of the mindfulness based practices will thus be examined as a result of the present project.  

Conclusion 

The project on assessing the suitability of mindfulness based practice in hospital oncology unit is important. The data collection method adopted for it has numerous statistical advantages, which influenced its choice. Moreover, the objectives of the project will be evaluated using both pre-test and post-test data. The project will also receive wide application in both practice settings and future research.
