Review the evidence-based practice project ideas you described in Topic 5 DQ 1. Based on your initial ideas, what types of scholarly nursing research (such as quantitative or qualitative research, peer-reviewed resources, etc.) would be required to further investigate the issue? Select an article related to your topic. Identify the criteria you would use based on the CRAAP test to evaluate the appropriateness of the research. Why is it important to select research that meets these criteria? Evaluate the “CRAAP Test” article from the New Jersey Institute of Technology Library, located in the topic Resources. As we are now more than halfway done with the course, I wanted to make sure everyone feels on track. I would encourage everyone to partake in a “quick check” so I can further assess and evaluate how you are doing. Please know that your response is not mandatory, but substantive responses do count for participation credit. Please take some time to consider the following:

  • What has been your biggest challenge so far in this course?
  • Do you have any unanswered questions?
  • What could I do to help address any concerns or questions?

I look forward to reading your responses.

I cannot believe we are more than halfway done with the course, it seems like only yesterday we started. On my part, the journey has so far been a smooth one. I haven’t experienced any challenge related to the course. Perhaps the only concern is on the requirement to use resources published within the last five years. In the process of completing the assignments, I often come across resourceful publications but cannot use them due to the time constraint. Even though some were published within the last 10 years, I have to disregard them and use the current ones. Other than that, I am at ease with other aspects of the course.

I think the biggest challenge for me in this course is adapting to online learning. I am both an auditory and visual learner but having plenty of resources helps me with the online learning environment and it has been easy to navigate what I need. You have been helpful and a great resource to all of us. I thought having courses online would be tough and would not have anyone to guide us but it has been smooth sailing since week 1. Another challenging aspect of this course is writing papers in APA format and doing my best to avoid plagiarism. This course is good practice and learning a lot about paper writing. So far, I have no questions in mind and I know I can easily message you for anything that will come up.

I cannot believe how fast this class has progressed and that it is more than halfway done. I feel good about how it is going. I was a little

nervous after receiving my grade for one of the earlier assignments that I had done incorrectly. I read the instructions multiple times because I wanted to make sure I understood them, but I should have asked for clarification to my questions for that assignment. I am doing well as the class has progressed. I was again nervous about last week’s paper assignment, but I did well.

I would say my biggest challenge in this class is still time management, juggling working full time and family. More specifically, I am struggling with writing a stronger thesis statement and improving on references. I feel it takes me a long time to toggle between the APA guide, my assignment, and my sources to cite everything correctly, but I think it is because I am not used to doing it. I think my speed will improve as I continue my journey for my MSN.

I appreciate your feedback for assignments. Could you recommend resources on how to write a better thesis statement? For the last assignment, I had referred to OWL regarding thesis statements.

Thank you.

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our first class. I have learned so much information so far, and I cannot wait to continue this journey. My biggest challenge so far has been time management. Throughout the first couple weeks of this class, I found it difficult to balance work, school, and social life. Luckily, I have grown from this and have become much more organized. The biggest challenge I have had with the content is APA formatting. I struggled with formatting in the beginning of this class, but I have gained a generalized understanding. I now feel confident with my APA formatting. At this point, I do not have any questions. I feel like this class has been very organized and easy to follow. I believe you have done a great job at answering questions, directing us to resources, and providing us with feedback. There is nothing that I can think of that you could be doing better. Thank you so much for all of the time and effort that you have put into this class. You have made this a great experience for me so far.

I cannot believe less than three weeks to go. My biggest challenge is time management between work, school, and family. The last four weeks’ work schedule was not working well for me, we are so short on the floor, and I have to stay over. Multiple times, I thought I wouldn’t make it through this course by turning in my assignment timely. Now I know the school schedule, and I can make it better for the following program by giving myself a day off for studies and saying no to overtime.

Academically, I was concerned about the APA format for my last papers, so I read all the past papers’ feedback and appreciated that you answered all my simple questions. It helps me avoid the same mistake from the past. Also, it was worth it to attend the APA 7th edition webinars from the GCU library. It was very confusing initially for the citation, but now I am happy to see myself not making the same mistake on the last papers.

So far, the course has been interesting. I am excited to be learning about various issues associated with advanced nursing practice. From the class content and activities, I would not site any challenges. The course is appropriately structured. The DQs, responses, and assignments are an excellent way to gauge our understanding. However, I have had a small challenge balancing school and other life activities. I have to dedicate time from my rest hours to go through the content and finish up my assignments and responses. Reading the course materials and making several responses weekly is quite a task. But don’t we all need to sacrifice something for a better future? I am happy to be working hard with the hopes of achieving my dreams as a clinical nurse leader. I am doing my best to grasp a lot from the class and maintain a good score.

I also have no unanswered questions. However, in case of any concerns, I will not hesitate to ask for help. Also, to address concerns and issues, I believe it would occur at the individual level, especially since there is currently no problem cutting across anyone. I am grateful that I am very comfortable and excited to finish up the remaining parts of the course. I hope to do better in the remaining parts of the course. I feel like I am on track, and I hope my final grade will prove that. I also wish everyone the best and encourage all to share their problems and receive the help that could help them turn their grades around.

Graduate school has been an incredible journey so far. On my end, I need to be more mindful of my time. I have to give our assignments, especially the high points one, an excellent thought to ensure I submit substantial work. APA formatting is still a concern for me and a lot of times I feel I’m doing it wrong. I already said this before, but sometimes I am overwhelmed by my work, life, and school balance, but I thank God because He always makes things possible for me. I am grateful to GCU for this opportunity to advance my education, to my classmates who had been very inspirational, and to our professor for helping us out. Thank you.

Time went by very quickly just two more weeks of class work and this course will be over, its been a good learning experience thus far. Came away with a great wealth of new information which I believe will be very useful going forward in perusing my degree . I remember the first week of class was total chaos trying to navigate the online platform, struggling to find where things were and how to access them. Now I have that figured out its been easy sailing, Still have some trouble with APA formatting and finding the right online journal article for class assignment, I have look at some of the library resources they are helpful but somehow they are not sticking I guess the more I practice eventually I will get better.

  • What has been your biggest challenge so far in this course?

Learning the APA format, getting used to the online education environment, and time management are three of my biggest challenges so far. Among the 3, mastering the APA format is the most challenging. This is my first time using this format. I have been out of school for 26 years now and my undergraduate education did not require stringent formatting requirements. This is also my first time using an online education environment. The closest I would have gotten was online work-related virtual classes, so adjusting to a non-face-to-face class was challenging for me as well since I usually like asking questions and participating in live discussions. Time management is different from week to week. I work my regular job from Mondays to Fridays and have a per diem position on Saturdays. If I don’t have scheduled work on Saturdays, it’s not too bad. However, there are Saturdays that I get home late from work so I have to make sure that my 1st Topic discussion is usually ready for submission or just needs minor edits before submission.

  • Do you have any unanswered questions?

Surprisingly, despite all these challenges, I don’t seem to have any unanswered questions at this point. I love the feedbacks I am getting. It has helped me a lot in working on my challenges and weaknesses.

  • What could I do to help address any concerns or questions?

I appreciate the quick responses to the questions that I ask through messaging whenever I need clarification on some areas. Overall, the instructions were clear and the curriculum is interesting. I learned a lot so far. This course has not been easy for me. The topics allowed me to reflect on my own practice, throughout the years, including the challenges, setbacks, and successes.

At my current place of employment, we are continuously reminded of the dangers of hospital acquired pressure injuries. We have weekly huddle emails, meetings and or flyers on this topic out to inform the staff on the prevention of these wounds. These notifications serve as reminders to us to be vigilant on the need to prevent the addition of unnecessary health issues to patients. It is very easy to be overwhelmed with tasks on the floor. There is a definite need to complete a thorough assessment of the patient to also include a quick visual once over of their skin to include what is going on underneath any area covered by dressings and clothing. Teaching patients the importance of including a quick daily visual check of their own skin can make it possible to catch any issues early. Catching health issues early as we know results in a better prognosis. As a future Public Health Nurse, myself, I plan on reviewing and using any theory or parts of theories that will assist me in improving my patient’s health statuses such as what I found in Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory. “By incorporating this theory, nurses can assess a patient’s self-care abilities, identify deficits, and provide the necessary interventions to bridge the gaps in self-care” (Ali, 2023, p. 51). I also believe that this theory can be a useful tool when addressing wound care when delivering patient care.
