The nursing process was invented in the year 1958, and it has since then been useful in guiding nursing care to date. The nursing process refers to a systematic approach to care by applying the fundamental principles of nursing intuition, evidence-based practice recommendations, goal-oriented tasks, client-centered approaches, and critical thinking (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2022). The nursing process is composed of five sequential steps such as assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. My proposed practice change topic can also be described using the nursing process.

The change topic entails combating the high nursing staff turnover rates by using motivation and empowerment programs. Therefore, this change project can follow the nursing process’s sequential stages (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2022). Assessment entails collecting data connected to the problem of staff turnover, such as the possible underlying reasons. Both the objective data and subjective data will be collected. Diagnosis entails using clinical judgment to support a possible implementation of an appropriate strategy.

The next step is planning, which is one of the most important phases (Rajabpoor et al., 2018). During this phase, the goals and outcomes are formulated that have a direct impact on patient care. The goals are set to enhance the attainment of desirable results, such as lowering the rates of turnover by a specific percentage. Planning is then followed by implementation. In the implementation phase, the proposed nursing intervention is put into practice to help effect the desired changes (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2022). In this case, the proposed intervention is applying for the motivation and empowerment programs within the facility to help improve the nurse retention rates. The final phase is the evaluation step which entails assessing whether the implemented intervention was effective in addressing the identified need. As such, it will be assessed whether the motivation and empowerment programs have effectively reduced staff turnover rates.
