A stakeholder is a person, group, organization or system that affects and can be affected by actions of an organization. In healthcare, there exists both external and internal stakeholders who play an important role in determining how healthcare services and delivered, the kind of healthcare decisions made, and implementation of new healthcare practices (Segarra-Oña et al., 2020). Internal stakeholders are those individuals or entities that are dedicated to serving the healthcare sector or organization. They comprise of healthcare professionals, administrators and other individuals who perform clinical and non-clinical roles in healthcare organizations. External stakeholders comprise of individuals or entities that provide input or feedback to healthcare organizations, competitors, and those that have special interests in how the organization functions. They include patients, insurance companies, medical equipment companies and pharmaceutical companies. Support from stakeholders is very critical in ensuring a successful adoption of a new evidence-based practice in healthcare. With regards to my change proposal, getting support from stakeholders such as the nursing staff, nurse leaders, policy makers, patients, and their families will be of great impact in ensuring the change practice is a success. Through stakeholder support, there will be an easy access to resources, skills, and knowledge necessary to implement the recommended change in healthcare (Mathieson et al., 2019). Stakeholders also play an important role in shaping public opinion and perceptions with regards to implementation of a proposed change. To secure the stakeholders’ support, I will ensure I actively engage them and inform them about my change proposal and the associated benefits for the healthcare facility, the staff,as well as on patient outcomes. I could organize interactive forums whereby we can share and exchange ideas about my proposed change. Creating awareness across all involved stakeholders will ensure they are well informed about the project, thus, making it easier for them to support it.

Thank you Melissa for your insightful discussion post on the role of stakeholders’ support in implementation of proposed project in the facility. The aim of engaging stakeholders is efficient use of resources and provision of skills, expert knowledge and common approach to a health issue. Stakeholders; both internal and external, offer leadership and managerial support, ensure the availability of resources, and increased collaboration to implement successful projects like the proposed change project (Boaz et al., 2018). These stakeholders like the management and leadership in the organization provide an enabling environment to implement the project by ensuring that all those in the organization work collaboratively from an inter-professional and multidisciplinary team perspective to attain the goals of the project.

External stakeholders like patients, suppliers, governmental agencies at state and federal levels, offer policy guidelines and regulations to ensure that a project happens based on set rules and complies with existing legal frameworks. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) focuses on health reforms that implore providers and healthcare organizations to implement projects that deliver patient-focused care (Pandi-(Perumal et al., 2018). External stakeholders offer resourceful insight into the practice and assist project implementation by providing oversight and leadership as well as managerial skills.

Getting support from the stakeholders requires their involvement in the proposed project implementers through effective

communication and participation. Giving feedback and using their input also ensures that proposed change succeeds. Through getting their support, one ensures that there is a common approach to the implementation with emphasis on evidence-based practice interventions. As you observe, support is critical to the overall success of the project and the involvement of stakeholders ensures that the proposed change captures their aspirations, needs, and concerns. For instance, nursing teams and patients work together to ascertain quality care goals of the project through effective communication.

Topic 5 DQ 1

Stakeholder support is necessary for a successful project implementation. Consider your internal stakeholders, such as the facility, unit, or health care setting where the change proposal is being considered, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group outside the health care setting. Why is their support necessary to the success of your change proposal, and how you will go about securing that support?

From a clinical standpoint, stakeholder engagement and management are pivotal to the development and deployment of community-oriented national and global health initiatives. The ultimate purpose of such engagement is the efficient use of time, money, and resources thereby positively impact existing and/or emerging healthcare challenges (Pandi-Perumal et al., 2015). The internal stakeholders I would use for successful implementation of my project would include education department, managers, and administration. I would need to use them for approval of the practice change within the hospital, and for the nurses who will be implementing the change with their patients. These stakeholders play an important role in facilitating the successful implementation of my project by providing knowledge, skills, and leadership to authorize the proposed change. External stakeholders involve patients, who will be receiving mental health resources, and the governing bodies who track the patients after they d/c from the ER. It’s important to have the support from the stakeholders, so that the change project can be promoted, have the resources available such as training, follow up meetings, and education hours available.

There needs to be justification and reasoning behind the project to support it. There may be some challenges along the way, such as resistance from staff for these changes, but hopefully we can implement more training and education for the staff. Planning and mapping out the change project take a lot of time and work, but it’s an important step needed. By securing the support from the stakeholders, will help build a successful proposal for the change project. Once the stakeholders have gotten involved in the project, I will be able to get feedback in order to make changes and improvements to perfect my project. In conclusion, stakeholders play major role in ensuring successful adoption of evidence in healthcare. Their support is necessary because they provide resources, skills and knowledge required for project’s implementation (Joseph,2019).
