Title: NRS 430 Discussion: Value Professional Nursing Organizations

Interesting organization you chose. It’s actually an organization that I’ve never heard of before but provides vital training and resources to the critical care specialty. The American Association of Critical Care nurses consist of a highly stressful, fast paced, and life or death work environments. This specialty requires nurses that can critically decipher critical information in a high stress situation. What stuck out the most to me about this unique origination is that it is so passionate about educating their nurses skills, that the AACN offers lots of free educational programs, resources to guidelines as well as a practice resource (AACN, 1969). The fact that the AACN offers a special networking community for information to be shared in a forum, and a mentor-ship program for new nurses to be taken under the wing of experienced nurses, as they begin this entry into nursing. The first year of nursing is such a venerable, stressful, scary, and unknown experience, which usually makes or breaks a nurse. The support services offered by the AACN organization lets other Critical Care nurses feel supported in many different areas. Critical care nursing peaks my interest, and hopefully it will be an area I can expand my experience into one day.

Title: NRS 430 Discussion: Value Professional Nursing Organizations

Nursing has evolved over time from simple caregiving to a professional status. Professional nursing organizations began in 1893 with the founding of the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, known today as the National League for Nursing (Matthews, 2012). Belonging to a professional organization gives personal advancement opportunities to actively involved members. Conferences offer networking, educational, and employment opportunities. Healthcare science and technology advance quickly. A good way for nurses to stay current is by joining a professional nursing organization. Nurses must stay informed and involved in ongoing practice development opportunities to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes increasing professional possibilities (Helbig, 2022). Networking with other nurses around the nation and the world, and sharing ideas, presents career connections, resources, and information to develop nursing practice (Matthews, 2012). Membership fees and fundraising are used to help nursing students at all levels of education by offering scholarships and research grants. There are many different nursing organizations, each with a particular interest and many chapters. Choosing a nursing organization to join depends upon interests. An essential function of nursing organizations is to represent nurses in legislative, political, and practice issues at all government levels, providing a voice for nurses and patients, leading to policy changes that affect nurses’ practice environment, and improving healthcare for everyone, leading to improved outcomes.
