Hello. The weekly objectives that I know previously are the importance of health assessment in nursing, the proper techniques to perform a complete health assessment, the importance of communication with the patient, and the correct documentation of the information collected. I am very interested in Social Determinants of Health along with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Weekly objectives of which I have no prior knowledge include application of specific health assessment tools, interpretation of assessment findings, and appropriate intervention based on assessment results. I would like to discuss with my instructor and classmates the different approaches in health assessment, how to adapt the assessment to different populations and situations, and how to improve my health assessment skills. My main questions and concerns about this course are related to clinical practice and how to effectively apply everything learned in a real nursing care setting.

Which weekly objectives do you have prior knowledge of and to what extent? 

  1. Evaluating environmental factors that increase risk to infant health: I have some familiarity with this area, particularly how external conditions like pollution, secondhand smoke, and household safety can affect an infant’s health. 
  1. Distinguishing between normal and abnormal health findings in an infant: While I understand that infants go through rapid developmental changes, I feel that my ability to identify what constitutes a normal versus an abnormal health finding is not well-developed 

Which weekly objectives do you have no prior knowledge of? 

  • Evidence-based practice in health promotion for infants 

  

 What course-related topics would you like to discuss with your instructor and classmates? What questions or concerns do you have about this course? 

I am interested in discussing the following topics and questions: 

  • Application of Evidence-Based Practices: What are some of the challenges in translating research findings into practical strategies that can be used by healthcare providers and parents alike? 
  • Environmental Risk Factors: I would like to understand the most critical environmental risks for infants in different settings and discuss intervention strategies that have proven effective. 
  • Interpreting Health Findings: It would be beneficial to discuss case studies or real-life scenarios where distinguishing between normal and abnormal health findings in infants was challenging.

From the stated objectives, I am familiar with the health assessment across different life spans. I have basic knowledge on risk-taking behaviors among adolescents. From my practice experience, I also have prior knowledge on how to demonstrate empathy and compassionate care in different scenarios. I may need more research and practice on conducting shadow health as i have not interacted with this prior to the course. I also hope to learn more on changes among the elderly and complexities associated with aging which I am not very familiar with. I do not have any questions regarding the provided objectives at this time but in case they come up i will engage with the instructor and classmate in the provided forums.
