NHS 8040 Unit 1 Discussion Question: It Takes a Team!
Sample Answer for NHS 8040 Unit 1 Discussion Question: It Takes a Team! Included After Question
To develop high-performing teams, a leader must first understand disciplines other than his or her own. In this discussion, you will examine individual professional contributions to health care and public health teams and the roles and responsibilities of inter-professional primary care team members.
A multidisciplinary approach to address patient, family, and community needs requires mutual respect and understanding among various health care professionals. In a multidisciplinary team, each discipline contributes independently to a patient’s care or to a new policy analysis or formulation. In an inter-professional team, members work closely together and communicate frequently to optimize outcomes for the individual, family, or community. This type of team is organized around a common set of problems and meets frequently to consult (American Public Health Association, n.d.).
After reviewing the unit readings, please begin your initial post by defining the terms multidisciplinary and inter-professional, and then discuss your experiences in health care or public health teams. Give an example of a successful team and an unsuccessful team if possible. Analyze whether each team was multidisciplinary or inter-professional.
Be sure to include at least one APA-formatted citation (in text plus full reference). The citation may be from course textbooks, assigned readings, or an outside source.
Note: For all course discussions, be sure to adhere to the requirements for initial posts and peer responses addressed in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences Faculty Expectations message (FEM).
Response Guidelines
Read and respond to your peers’ posts according to FEM guidelines. In each response, compare your own experiences to those of your peer. Ask for clarification or comment on the learner’s analysis of whether the team was multidisciplinary or interprofessional. If your response offers an alternative viewpoint or refers to the ideas or work of others, your assertions must be supported by citing an outside source, using APA formatting.
