Transcultural Paper* – Select, read, reflect, and synthesize 4 journal articles and write a 10-12-page paper (excluding references, tables, figures, and title page) following the grading criteria components detailed in Part B. (30%)
Part B – Follow APA 7th Edition guidelines. Use headings for each of the major sections of the paper components (except introduction). Use subheadings as appropriate. When introducing and discussing articles, refer to the articles by authors, title, reference, etc. as per APA and scholarly writing; do not refer to your articles as article 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Grading Criteria
- Abstract (overall summary of major parts of paper as per APA) (5 points)
- Introduction(5 points)
Mention the general types of topics covered in each of your assigned 2 journal issues. (Do not list the titles, but succinctly report general topics). Discuss your rationale for selecting your article (Article #1).
(Be sure to mention the name of the journal (italicized), year, and journal’s issue number. When introducing Article #1, be sure to include the title, authors, and cite reference as per APA.
Do not refer to your selected article as article #1 in your narrative discussion). (1-2 paragraphs)
- Critical thinking (5 points)
Discuss how the article [Article #1]: a) stimulated your critical thinking; and b) provided you with new learning (knowledge, skills, and awareness). Use specific examples and citations from the article.

- Reflective feelings (5 points)
Describe feelings evoked: a) as you were reading the article [Article #1]; and b) upon conclusion of the article. (See sample list of feelings on blackboard). Provide examples of places in the article that evoked different feelings (if applicable). What effect did this have on your motivation and future actions about the topic? (1-2 paragraphs)
- Application to course- Course: Transcultural Nursing for Nurse Practitioners (syllabus with topics attached) (10 points)
Discuss how the article [Article #1]: a) matched the course student learning outcomes and b) expanded upon course topics, readings, and assignments. Use specific examples and citations from the article and specific examples from the syllabus, course topics, readings, and assignments. (1-2 paragraphs)
- Application to CNS or NP core competencies (Comptency attached: use Column 1) (5 points)
Using the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist (NACNS) Core Competencies OR the NP Adult-Gerontology Core Competencies (AACN), student will appraise the selected article [Article #1] for its timeliness and congruence with the core competencies. Discuss the 1 core competency most relevant to the selected article, explaining rationale for selection and discussing how it relates to the article.

- Application to Cultural Competence Guidelines (Douglas, et al, 2014)(5 points)
Student will appraise the selected article [Article #1] for its timeliness and congruence with the Guidelines and discuss the 1 most relevant Guideline to the selected article, explaining how it relates.

Using the Healthy People (HP) 2030 Topics and Objectives, student will appraise the selected article [Article #1] for its timeliness and congruence with HP 2030. Student will select 3 of the 5 HP 2030 category headings most relevant to the article (e.g., Health Conditions, Health Behaviors, Populations, Settings and Systems, and Social Determinants of Health, and then select the most relevant topic and objective from within the 3 categories). Discuss rationale for selection and how they relate to Article#1. Cite specific examples from the article. Supplement with a table (Table 1) that follows the reference list, depicting up to 10 areas most relevant to the selected article. Include the 3 categories, topics, and objectives you discuss in this section within your table. Refer to the table within this narrative section.

but published within the last 3 years AND related to the transcultural topic from article 1.
Discussion presents an organized synthesis of key concepts, etc. related to transcultural topic AND AVOIDS a disconnected and separate presentation of each article. (3-4 paragraphs)
- Application to practice area and professional development(5 points)
Describe how the literature reviewed and the literature synthesis [4 articles] will enhance your current and future clinical or other professional practice and professional development. For current practice, identify realistic goals and actions achievable within 6 months. For future clinical or other professional practice, present realistic goals and actions within a stated, approximate timeline. (Be sure to identify your current practice role and setting and your future professional goals. Give specific examples). (1-2 paragraphs).
