Re: Topic 8 DQ 1

I am interested in more than three professional nursing groups. I am already a member or active participant in the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) as a result of CCRN classes, testing, and certification; and plan to attend the National Teaching Institute (NTI) and Critical Care exposition in May as a result of this association. Thus, for the purposes of this conversation, I’m going to look into nursing organizations that I intend to learn more about as my career as an APRN grows. The American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA), and the Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses are among the organizations that provide certification for nurses (SPCN).

The ANCC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), and is well-known for its high-quality credentialing and certification programs. The goal is to acknowledge both individual and organizational excellence in terms of specialty, patient care quality, and magnet recognition. They have a variety of distinct programs and purposes, and their qualifications vary according to program. My attention was sparked by the fact that the ANCC offers one of the few certificates in nursing informatics. They offer an Informatics Nursing Certification, which needs a valid RN license and either a significant amount of clinical experience or a graduate degree in informatics. Additionally, the ANCC offers numerous awards, scholarships, and study aids to aid in the promotion of education and progress of the nursing profession.

The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) is a more focused organization on informatics in nursing. The ANIA’s mission is to “improve nursing informatics in all roles and contexts” through education, research, and practice (ANIA, 2021). Membership benefits include networking opportunities, access to current research and the Journal of Informatics Nursing, annual conferences, and discussion forums for members. To qualify for membership, you must possess a valid license and diploma in nursing, or be a current nursing student, and pay the membership fee. The Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses (SPCN) is the smallest of the mentioned professional organizations but is most specifically related to my current role as a pediatric cardiovascular ICU nurse. The SPCN currently has about 400 members and serves as a great resource for those within the specialty to communicate with one another and share information and resources (SPNC, n.d.). The requirements are simply a membership fee. The SPCN serves a very small niche specialty, so it interests me to be able to connect with those within the same field.

In my current work, care is so specific to this population, and the pediatric population as a whole is understudied. I feel the continued

education and research related to nursing practice is of upmost importance. With advancements in technology and continued advancements in research and education I feel this will continue to serve and benefit the patient population. I feel that all three of the mentioned organizations do a great job in supporting the advancement, continued educations, and dissemination of resources and information. All of these professional organization contribute to the advancement of the nursing field as a whole, and goals and motivation for doing so are very much in line with my own career interests and worldviews. Gina becoming a member of a nursing organization whether one or many is a nice idea.  Different nursing organizations are assigned unique roles. For instance, AACN applauds individual and organizational success in the nursing sector.  Therefore, the organization certifies programs that allow nurses to improve on their performance levels. AACN has various programs with unique purposes to improve both individual and organization excellence (Schmidt & McArthur, 2018). The nursing agency has to ensure that nurses willing to join their organization understand the demands.  ANIA is another beneficial nursing organization involved in advancing nursing informatics through research, education, and other activities providing crucial information for nurses (Harrison et al., 2020).  Therefore, ANIA membership involves nurses and nursing researchers. Also, to be allowed as a member of the agency has a valid license and diploma in nursing is necessary.   SPCN is another nursing organization.  The organization is not famous despite being important in the healthcare settings.  SPCN has 400 members who enjoy the cordial relationship as they perform their roles. The members share information and other resources that help them achieve the organization’s goals.

Re: Topic 8 DQ 1

The three organizations of interest are the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). The NSNA dedicates the organization to the development of future nurses as they follow their educational path towards a career in nursing (National Student Nurses’ Association [NSNA], 2021). Additionally, the association provides scholarships to undergraduate students to complete their degrees. NSNA members can join their university and state nursing organizations and participate in leadership activities. The NSNA has biannual meetings that provide information relevant to current nursing, health care, and legislative issues (NSNA, 2021). The AACN represents nurses dedicated to academia (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2021). It establishes and implements educational standards for nursing students at any level of nursing education. The AACN guides nurses toward improving health care. Nurses are supported by the AACN in their education, research, and practice. The membership comprises nursing schools, faculty, and students (AACN, 2021). ASPAN is the organization that represents perianesthesia nursing. The group sets the standards of care and clinical guidelines for the care of patients in the preoperative and postoperative settings (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses [ASPAN], 2021). The society provides membership that includes seminars, webinars, reviews for certification, and a journal dedicated to perianesthesia care. New and current information is provided along with legislation that impacts the clinical areas of care. The organization encourages certification and offers reviews at various locations in the country (ASPAN, 2021). All three organizations have stated in some form that they are committed to nursing education and improving the care of each patient. This is my goal in furthering my education. I hope that my clinical knowledge will serve each patient well. I would also like to teach in order to produce nurses dedicated to professional improvement that serves our patients and communities.

Camille, I concur with you that NSNA is an amazing organization since it is concerned with nursing career paths.  Therefore, the organization plays a crucial role in developing and mentoring future nurses.  To ensure that future nurses are competent to execute their obligations NSNA provides scholarships to undergraduate nursing students to complete their degrees (Brewington & Godfrey, 2020). The nursing agency ensures that future nurses are prepared to be successful.  Since its foundation, NSNA has facilitated most nursing students’ education in various universities.  The AACN is also an important nursing organization that is concerned with nurses’ education levels. The partners with various nursing learning institutions to develop programs that aim at improving nurses educational levels (Nunnery et al., 2019).  ASPAN is another nursing organization that allows members to be involved in webinars, seminars, and other engagements that enable them to exchange ideas.  Creating a platform for nurses to interact as well as share insights allows nurses to advance their skills and knowledge. Different reasons justify the interests nurses have with certain nursing organizations.

Re: Topic 8 DQ 1

The Wisconsin Nurses Association (WNA) works with the national effort from the American Nurses Association (ANA) to protect, promote, and enhance professional nurse practice (WNA, 2021). Any registered nurse (RN) can be a member. Membership benefits include professional development, scholarship opportunities, legal counsel if needed, and staying updated through networking and publications. The WNA is committed to advancing the profession and improving health to Wisconsinites and just celebrated over 110 years of voice, visibility, and value in Wisconsin. Seven core values ground the mission and include integrity, inclusive, evidence-based, service-focused, innovation, impactful, and effective. WNA promotes health care as a right and uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses as the foundation for ethical behavior in practice. Membership in the ANA rewards nursing dedication and commitment, providing networking opportunities and protecting interests. Discounts are offered on certification, continuing education (CE) requirements, and publications. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is a world-renowned credentialing subsidiary of the ANA (ANA, n.d.). State membership includes the national ANA membership as well.

The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) is specialty-focused and is the voice of nurse leaders to shape health care through innovative and expert nursing leadership (AONL, n.d.). While promoting professional development for the nurse leaders, education, advocacy, and community remain similar membership benefits, as seen with the ANA and WNA. Two certifications are offered through the AONL Credentialing Center: Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP and Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML). One AONL benefit, Leader2Leader Mentor Match, connects members for nursing leadership skill development through personal relationships and mentoring.

Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of holistic nursing and taught principles of unity, wellness, and interrelationship of human beings and their environment to nurses (AHNA, n.d.). The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) is currently leading the way in holistic and integrative health care, with more than 5,500 members since Charlie McGuire founded the AHNA in 1980. Again, the AHNA is similar in offering education, networking, affiliations, and partnerships with local, national, and international chapters. Membership in any nursing organization serves to empower the nurse, provide advocacy, education, resources, and research with many specialty tracks to choose from. All of these examples would align with my Christian and holistic worldview of finding your life purpose and in a whole-person approach.

Barbara indeed WNA is supported by ANA in executing its roles. The nursing organization promotes the nursing practice.  Members enjoy career development and scholarship opportunities that allow them to become successful nurses (Williams et al., 2020).  WNA allows any registered nurses to join them as members.  The organization has operated for more than 100 years during that time it has protected and enhanced professional nurse practice. Also, the years have allowed the organization to have a huge membership. AONL is another amazing nursing agency. The agency creates a platform for nurses to voice their opinions and contributions that benefits healthcare (Chiu et al., 2020).  The approach has allowed nurses to participate in innovation. To make the members more beneficial in innovation the organization offers education and certification to their members. Most nursing organizations have operated for a prolonged period due to their impact on the healthcare sector. These agencies have transformed to ensure that they remain relevant to the nurses and other stakeholders in the healthcare sector.
