Topic 7: Disseminating Evidence

Topic 7 DQ 1

Evidence dissemination connotes a targeted sharing of information to a specific public health audience or clinical practice. Dissemination of evidence involves various strategies, which seeks to enhance the understanding and the evidence-based intervention in question to a wider scope within the organization, geographical area, and social networks of the health care stakeholders including consumers such as the patients and the health care professionals (Dudley-Brown, 2019). Consequently, this paper will consider the audience for the EBP proposal and the strategies for disseminating the proposal. The key audience for this project proposal includes major players in the health care field such as patients, health care providers, government, researchers, government agencies and institutions, community groups, association of health care settings, public health associations, charitable groups, opinion leaders, and advocacy groups.

Concerning strategies for disseminating proposal, Brownson et al., (2017) provides various techniques can be used to disseminate the proposed nursing intervention. One of the strategies is to publish the proposal on different platforms such as print media including nursing journals, local and national newspapers, statewide nursing publications, policy programs, or policy briefs. These platforms can be accessed by many targeted audiences. The proposal can also be disseminated by different ways including organizational websites, health promotion events, press release, training, social media, and progress reports. Other strategies include presentation at nursing conferences, local organizations, community groups, and local radio and TV stations. Moreover, the dissemination can be done through various materials such as flyers, guides, pamphlets, and DVDs. It is important to note that these strategies of disseminating proposal should be anchored on health communication which emphasizes on ensuring that the evidence is impactful, interpretable, and actionable.

Dissemination of research findings is necessary to guide interventions to improve the health outcomes (Cunningham-Erves et al., 2020). Dissemination efforts need to consider the message, source, and audience (Brownson et al., 2018). Stakeholders bring knowledge and different skillsets to the table and will advocate for organizational change to provide excellent care to patients. Necessary stakeholders to help leverage evidence-based practice (EBP) project for review and approval would include Administration, Emergency Department leadership, Psychiatry director and manager, pediatric inpatient medical director, director of informatics technology (IT), pediatric director, and manager. Having scheduled meetings with the administration to advocate for funding and the implementation of process change will help emphasize the impact on patient’s satisfactions within the organization (Han et al., 2021). Other internal stakeholders will be bedside nurses, child life, educator, IT department, and providers by holding staff meetings with PowerPoint presentations and poster presentations to introduce virtual telehealth resources to adolescent patients suffering from suicidal ideation and or attempt while waiting inpatient on medical units for inpatient psychiatry treatment. IT department is a key stakeholder to facilitate devices are working and each team member has the capability to set up the devices and trouble shoot when the interventions begin. Being able to explain the “why” behind the proposal, the benefits to this specific at-risk population and the outcomes for the patient population will help to ensure a successful implementation within the organization. External stakeholders would be families of adolescent patients and family support network. Family support network would be able to provide and connect families to community resources regarding mental health issues while providing pamphlets with information about virtual telehealth resources offered while their child is waiting for an inpatient psychiatry facility. Dissemination of research findings would be beneficial to all key stakeholders with an end goal of providing excellent family centered care as a goal within the organization.
