According to DeGraff (2017), Worldview is a collection of deeply held beliefs about how we interpret and experience the world. The worldview is learned by individual experiences throughout our lives, and everyone is different. With that said, my worldview encompasses the belief that Jesus is the son of God and the Holy Spirit. The belief of angels, Virgin of Guadalupe, and Virgin Mary who is the mother of Jesus Christ. Moreover, I believe in having good morals, respect, justice, equality, love one another, compassion, empathy, patience, honesty, assist the less fortunate because we are all children of God and treat others as they were your family such as a father, mother, sister and/or grandmother. Lastly, I believe in working hard and always being thankful for my job and education because I can help many people through their difficult journey either on their road to recovery or in their last moments in this world. My worldview as explained, defines me as a nurse to care for our patients, not only physically but spiritually as well.
As an advanced registered nurse, it is important to have mutual respect with patients, be flexible and humble to be open to the cultural dimensions of each patient (DeNisco, 2024). This will help me create a great rapport with patients and be able to provide a plan of care to improve his or her health. It is important to listen, build trust and communicate with patients. If there is a word that is unfamiliar ask the translator to investigate further the meaning so that multicultural communication is avoided.
Ethnocentrism impedes the delivery of culturally competent nursing care (DeNisco, 2024). As an advanced registered nurse working in collaboration with other health care providers, it is important to see the viewpoint of others than just our own to avoid assumptions and/or bias that can cause harm and pain to patients.
It is especially important to see the patient, not just for their illness but to consider and be competent in their beliefs, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. We all have differences in worldviews and cultures, so the patients’ view of the world and their culture should also be respected.

In the acute inpatient, bedside nurses frequently admit, transfer, and discharge patients. The discharge instructions are not only a document in the medical record but a reminder for patients. This care coordinator’s role was to manage a patient with incidental findings and required ongoing coordination of their care. The care coordinator ensures patients keep their appointments, provides patient-based care and coordinates with other healthcare team members. Their position can potentially reduce inefficiencies and improve patient outcomes, close the gap for lack of tracking of patients, collaborate with the specialist, refer patients to the right place for their incidental findings, and stop the discrepancies in our health care system. One resource that helped me understand advanced practice registered nurse roles is titled “Advanced nursing practice roles: closing the knowledge gap.” The authors begin the article by outlining the growing demand for improved patient outcomes. Ko et al. (2019) acknowledge that achieving improved outcomes require recognition of advanced practice roles. The outlined roles include certified RN anesthetists (CRNAs), certified nurse midwives (CNMs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), advanced practice RN (APRN), and clinical nurse leaders (CNL).
The article goes ahead to outline that all these four key roles require master’s level and doctoral level degrees. The authors also indicate that advanced registered nurse roles significantly influence patient and healthcare outcomes. In the next ten years, the need for advanced practice nurses will rise by 31%, given the mandate to address the aging population and promote preventive care (Ko et al., 2019). They conducted an educational intervention to obtain knowledge on advanced practice roles in an 877-bed level 1 hospital.
The study results indicate that practice guidelines and toolkits are crucial in guiding advanced registered nurses in their roles. Good leadership is also important in ensuring the appropriate implementation of the four key roles. There is a gap in leadership knowledge of the roles of advanced practice nurses. On the other hand, a CNS consults with other nurses on patient care, provides direct patient care, and works to enhance health practices at the macro and local levels. In regard to roles of the advanced registered nurse, a resource that I have found helpful is from New England Institute of Technology. The reason I like this resource is because it briefly explains roles of various master’s prepared nurses: nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, research nurse, nurse consultant, forensic nurse consultant, nurse ethicist, and health informatics nurse. Some of the roles listed above are completely new to me, so this has been very helpful. Additionally, this resource also lists basic skills you will acquire from getting your master’s in nursing. Arguably, my favorite part of this resource is that it not only informs you of benefits of becoming a master’s prepared nurse, but it also lists some possible drawbacks of being a master’s prepared nurse (New England Institute of Technology, 2020). A negative thing I can say about this resource is that is does not go into great detail about each role, but it does give you a general understanding. I enjoy reading resources like this because it is interesting to see all of the roles that a nurse can pursue.

As a nurse, my personal worldview is based on the principle of nursing practice act that strives for equality, that all humans are created in God’s image, equal, and should be treated with the principle of justice, compassion, and helping one another especially, those in need. Recognizing diverse backgrounds, respecting patient’s beliefs, understanding their belief practice, understanding/ acknowledging the impact of their culture and beliefs on their health, requires an APRN to tailoring care to meet their preferences is important part of my role.
Acknowledging and supporting patient’s spiritual beliefs/needs through open communication, respect, compassion, dignity for the patient will enhance positive patient outcome in a holistic care manner.
Activating one’s spiritual humility in practice will give rise to supporting patient care decision, inclusive of their environmental factors, their families, and integrating their spiritual needs into their care which requires self-reflection to recognize and understand one’s bias or omission of this complex medical assessment, requires apologize/admitting wrongdoing, and not imposing one’s personal beliefs.
As we all know that the world is a global village and our patients come from walk of life, it is crucial to be culturally competent, practice open communication, collaborate with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members, be spiritually sensitive, and support to the patient in delivery a holistic approach care.
APRN should not allow patient to continue making decisions that seem irrational and harmful to them because that would not mean disrespect of a patient’s autonomy for the law permit patient the power of autonomy when it comes to their medical care, which heath care professional are to respect according to Arrieta Valero (2019). Nursing practice principles of beneficence and non-maleficence, not to harm the patient but let them live. This principle of non-maleficence, is applicable to all patients but mostly, to vulnerable patients (like minor, elderly, or mental ill), as it presupposes causing no harm to others (Nissen and Hvidt 2019). A parent may not act or decide in the best interest of their child’s healthcare decision. Health care profession have an obligation to protect the patient (minor) in such instance.
Recognizing bias in rendering service is important and that is why the industry is prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing education because learning in clinical environments is an important part of the professional development of nursing students (Hakim et al., 2023). The concepts such as equity, justice, fairness, and human rights need to examine the ways in which nurses enforce this principle in practice, within the reality of modern health and increasing collaboration between healthcare professionals (like talk to a healthcare chaplain), with the focus being on improving patient outcomes, reduce harm, and increasing safety. My personal decision about my patients should not intervene with their decision but my view about their health situation would be, to consider seeking and taking to medical advice regarding their option through seeking other resources.
We are God’s creation, we are wonderfully and fearfully created, everyone created differently with dignity, and honor. This believe is irrespective of age, color, ethnicity, health, wealth, or sickness. Everyone deserves respect, honor, and dignity from the society as each life matter (Wright et al., 2018).
