HCA 620 Business Project Plan Evaluation and Development
Having identified the ever-growing demand for surgical services within the Palmer region of Alaska, Valley Hospital spotted an opportunity to establish an outpatient ambulatory surgical center, to be operated under the name Susitna Ambulatory Surgery Center. The facility, once complete, will benefit the community not only by reducing patient hospital expenditures through such improved outcomes as reduced rates of nosocomial infections, but also by delivering a 26% reduction in customer waiting time. The facility will benefit from the currently existing team of seasoned professionals, comprised of 20 surgeons of different specialties and four orthopaedic surgeons. As such, the facility will not incur any retraining costs during personnel deployment, a further boost to Valley Hospital’s goal of enhanced efficiency.
The Susitna Ambulatory Surgery Center will be located within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough region, a fast-growing neighborhood of the US occupied by 27 communities. Th facility will therefore offer services to individuals residing in three incorporated towns, namely Wasilla, Houston, and Palmer, and a further 25 unincorporated regions. Furthermore, since the facility is intended to be a leader in this niche, it is believed that will be able to tap into the larger US service market valued at 2.72 trillion US dollars as of 2018. Its sustainability will also be boosted by the increasing patient preference for outpatient care due to the associated cost-effectiveness. Complementing this with increased government investment in ambulatory healthcare services and the facility has its future mapped out.
Valley Hospital has established itself in the healthcare industry as the epitome of quality health service delivery, covering inpatient and outpatient services. Establishing the Susitna Ambulatory Surgery Center is conceived to enhance the hospital’s reach in terms of the quality service delivery. To achieve this, the facility will rely on client satisfaction feedback, which will be obtained via electronic mail, physician referrals as well as the production and circulation of flyers to clients and patients. This marketing strategy promises to not only enhance community engagement for client flow, but will also foster exquisite interactions between the facility and other stakeholders, in particular, other government agencies.
The facility, however, will not be 100% proof of competition. Given its location within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, an area
covering approximately 25,258 mi² and currently being served by the Providence Hospital, Susitna Ambulatory Surgery Center will need to appeal to a customer base already accustomed to travelling all the way to Providence Hospital. In this regard, ease of accessibility will be one of Susitna’s greatest competitive advantage. By significantly reducing travel time to a hospital facility and guaranteeing reduced patient waiting time, the facility is likely to weather this fierce competition gracefully.

The facility also identifies that weathering the competition is but half the task. It will need effective strategies to maximize revenues. To achieve this, the Susitna Ambulatory Surgery Center has drawn up a plan that will see it focus on higher reimbursement procedures. Once it is operations, the facility will be able to carry out approximately 5170 procedures within the first year of operation, translating to about $22,362,219. With sustained marketing and quality service delivery, this the number of procedures is expected to grow by 16.71%, 17.55%, 18.69% and 19.76% annually from year 2 through to year 5. It is expected that revenue growth will also take a similar pattern, thus ensuring the facility’s near- and long-term profitability and sustainability.
Valley Hospitals surgical demands have grown over the last few years. As a consequence, the management has seen it fit to create an outpatient ambulatory surgical center known as Susitna Ambulatory Center that will be attached to the hospital. The Susitna Ambulatory Center will have the benefit of seasoned professional as demonstrated by the presence of 20 surgeons of various specialties and four well-known and respected orthopedic surgeons. In other words, the center will be adequately staffed to provider the ambulatory surgeries. As a consequence, the Susitna Ambulatory Center will lead to reduced hospital expenditures as the improved outcomes such as reduced rates of nosocomial infections and reduced blood transfusions.
Moreover, the ambulatory center will reduce the time spend at the hospital by 26%, further reducing the resources and time that will be spent on individual patients. The Susitna Ambulatory Center seeks to offer value to patients and taxpayers as it will reduce procedure expenditure by 45%-60%. The cost savings for o0ur facility will be accompanied by improved outcome while no additional physician training will be required since it has qualified surgeons and medical personnel. Thus, our facility will adopt a lean structure and increased efficiency to reduce costs for all stakeholders. The center will also invest state-of-the art medical equipment to ensure efficiency of services and improved customer satisfaction, which will translate to reduced operational costs and increased revenues. The facility will adopt evidence-based practice interventions during sterilization and orthopedic wound management undertakings to offer recommended infection control. For posterity, the Valley Hospital seeks to make the Susitna Ambulatory Center as the outpatient ambulatory center of choice within its locality and even beyond.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. It is required that you watch this 32-minute video as the assignments from week 3 through 5 require that you follow the instructions to the letter to succeed. Failure to complete these assignments according to instructions might lead to a zero. Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.
Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
