Title: GOVT 201 Unit 2 – Discussion Board

The creation of laws and legislations at local, state, and federal levels requires elected representatives to present bills at the respective levels for deliberations and considerations. Bills emanate out of issues that affect the electorate based on their current situations. In this case, the bill to present in the legislative assembly would be concerning health disparities and reduction of the cost burden. The bill will seek to lower the current cost of care through adoption of a universal health care (UHC) model and cater to individuals who still do not have medical or health insurance coverage in the states (Alspaugh et al., 2021). More Americans still cannot access care despite the enactment of the Affordable Care Act over ten years ago and subsequent revisions or amendments to the act. Therefore, my bill would be about implementing a universal health coverage for the very vulnerable people, households, and health populations. A universal health coverage would help the country reduce the cost of disease burden and develop effective interventions to equitably distribute health resources to reach more people (Lal et al., 2021).

I would introduce this bill at the federal level through Congress. The national level is desirable as the implementation of a universal health care model is long overdue for a majority of the underserved and marginalized populations, especially the racial minorities in the country (Jones et al., 2019). The bill aims at ensuring that all Americans across the states and territories get access to quality healthcare with federal government’s participation and nots state governments only. The introduction of this bill at the federal level is essential because it demonstrates the need for all Americans to have improved health.

legislators, who represent the people who voted them into office. Legislators’ primary role is to create the laws that will govern the country. To create a law, a bill must be introduced to a legislative body, such as Congress at the national level, the state legislature at the state level, or perhaps a city council at the local level.

Imagine that you are a representative or that you are going to write to your representative with an idea for a bill.

  • What issue would your bill address?
  • At what level of government (federal, state, or local) would you introduce this bill? Why would you introduce it at that level?

Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 50–100-word reply about their Primary Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:

  • Discuss how the issue your classmate’s bill addressed impacts your own life or community.
  • Discuss differences or similarities you see between the issue you chose and those your classmates chose to discuss.
