Title: ENG 104 Unit 2 Discussion Board

Watching a film, reading a book, a social media post, listening to a song and even a TV commercial as well as even short videos can have a long-term effect on individuals and speak to us. One such piece is a TED Talk by Doctor B. J. Miller who discusses the issue of dying and what really matters at the end of one’s life. Miller offers a personal experience of what his disability and how despite its limitation, his is physician. Dr. Miller asserts that death is an inevitable part of life and one that each person should be prepared to endure, whether good or painful (Miller, 2015). However, his focus is that death should not entail suffering, even for those which chronic diseases and need healthcare.

What resonates with me from this talk is that people do not have to be afraid of death and that the dying process is an essential part of life which implores all to be patient and show compassion; especially between the care receiver and the caregiver. According to Dr. Miller, palliative care is essential as it makes life better despite one facing the prospect of dying when it is determined by those who are in such a process.

The speaker of this TED talk appeals to my emotions and the need to appreciate that what really matters as people come to the end of their lives is humanity and real love to change each one’s experiences of life. The talk is categorical that many things are bound in life and one must be willing and ready to have a better living despite their situations and experiences (Miller, 2015). As nurses and healthcare providers, dealing with patients needs effective care and genuine human concern to change their lives and perspectives. End of life patients need practical support that allows them to feel human as they were before their current situation and state of health. Providers should be creative to attain the biomedical principle of beneficence, especially in end-of-life situations.
