In the contemporary healthcare sector, every research finding must be backed by health data or by numbers. Health statistics are equally part of healthcare practice as are drugs and physicians. Without health statistics the healthcare industry would fall on its knees. Equally, without knowledge in health statistics, a healthcare worker’s career would crumble. The first and most important rationale for the need of statistical knowledge among healthcare providers is quality improvement (Aggarwal, 2018). This is best explained through the application of evidence-based practice (EBP). Healthcare providers have a heavy duty when it comes to improving patient care, patient outcomes, and improving bedside care. This can only be done through quality improvement initiatives. The first rule of quality improvement initiatives is that they must be backed by current evidence supporting their efficacy. This requires that they may be able to either collect or interpret data or both.
