DQ 2: Discuss how geopolitical and phenomenological place influences the context of a population or community assessment and intervention.

Discuss how geopolitical and phenomenological place influence the context of a population or
community assessment and intervention. Describe how the nursing process is utilized to assist in
identifying health issues (local or global in nature) and in creating an appropriate intervention,
including screenings and referrals, for the community or population.

According to the BMJopinion,(2021). community living, and working in decently packed
environments are at the greatest risk of infectious diseases. People with underlying conditions and
elderly people are disproportionately affected especially during pandemics. Providing and early
intervention utilizing the nursing process will be ideal for dissemination and transmission dynamics
of remerging and reemerging infection diseases and the underlying features of gain-of-function
research and geopolitics within and across the borders (BMJopinion,2021). Some of these
concerns had become a prominent issue in the management of global and local health because
diseases like the pandemic are critical issues. However, In recent years, there have been
exacerbating outbreaks of infectious diseases worldwide. Diseases like swine flu, Middle East
respiratory syndrome coronavirus, the Zika virus, and the Ebola virus disease unprecedented
climate, demographic, and technological spatiotemporal variations in both rural and urban
precincts with escalating threats to hunger/food security, environment, health, and socioeconomic

activities, bringing threats that require countries with vast resources and conscionable geopolitical
imperatives to contribute and enhance global health and environmental security to stem the
increased risk in the emergence and reemergence of novel infectious diseases. International
health, policy, and security have perspicuously enhanced health perspectives and interventions in
association with political stability to address the disproportionate global health problems, reflecting
on strategies to balance public and medical modalities regarding the origin. Utilizing the nursing
process is important to assist the community through prevention and protection, vi different
developments such vaccinations, treatment modalities, compulsory applications such masks, hand
washing, social distance, non-pharmacological intervention, well ventilation ambient, compliance
to preventative strategies, research, and geopolitical intervention. Furthermore, it is important to
provide the resources to distribute vaccines and start fast treatments for prevention, in poorer
countries, and vulnerable populations worldwide (HSPI,2022).

Geopolitical and phenomenological place influence the context of a population or community and
their assessments and interventions. A geopolitical place consists of community boundaries,
transportation infrastructure, geographic features, climate, vegetation, animals, and human-made
homes and facilities (Green, 2018). This means that depending on where you live, your health
priorities will vary. For example, someone living in south America will have different health
priorities than someone from North America because of things like climate, different species on
animals and insects, different environments with different plants, food, etc. So health assessments
and interventions are done to focus on health related issues that are more common with your
geographical area. Phenomenological place is a relational or psychological location rather than a
geographical location (Green, 2018). This focuses more on group statuses within a population
rather than being based on geographical location. An example can be a drug user population in a
specific area versus the non drug user populations. Assessment and interventions would also vary
for these two populations because their needs are different.

The nursing process functions as a systematic guide to client-centered care with 5 sequential
steps. These are assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Toney-Butler,
T., Thayer, J., 2022). The nursing process can be utilized to assist in identifying health issues
based on location, whether that be local or global. An example we can use is COVID-19. When
COVID first arrived in the world, the people from China in the area with the outbreak because
started showing symptoms alike. This caused a rise in concern that a virus or bacteria may be
spreading. When using that nursing process in this scenario, you can link like symptoms together
and plan interventions accordingly. The nursing process could have been and can still be used
around the world to track patients who show like symptoms for COVID and also for planning care
for COVID patients.

One of the most interesting examples is the “water politics” of Africa. Because of geography,
many African countries share the Nile River which is considered a main source of water.
Although some states experience annual flooding. One of the prevalent natural disaster
pertinent to the people of Ogbaru community in Nigeria is flooding because they share
boundaries with the Niger river. In other words, they are called the riverine areas. Unlike some
natural disasters, rainfall flooding can be controlled with proper planning and the provision of
necessary infrastructure (Agbonkhese et al. 2014). The case of Nigeria is mainly human
induced with current poor urban planning practices and inadequate environmental
infrastructure. In 2012, this community experienced its worst flooding recorded in recent
history. The extent and nature of flooding are such that the actual figures of displacements,
losses and fatalities cannot be truly ascertained due to poor records and reporting. Flooding
threatens sustainability because it negatively affects the economy, social life, environment,
and health.
