As compared to other organs, the skin gets into contact with the external environment and therefore is exposed to many causative agents that affect its integrity. Often, dermatologic disruptions may result from allergic and inflammatory reactions or infections (Barsotti et al., 2016). Besides, viral, bacterial and fungal infections can cause skin disorders. In the case study, the patient has a skin disorder related to exposure to infective agent.

In the case study, the patient presents a condition of contact dermatitis. The condition is based on an inflammation of the skin due to exposure to an infectious agent (In Kon & In Rai, 2017). The lesions for the case study can be localized or spread across contact areas. The lesion also consists of increased pigmentation indicating the presence of toxic substances or an invasion by an infectious agent. Rash and redness of the lesion cause pain to the patient.

Three Differential Diagnosis

In the first diagnosis, the patient has allergic contact dermatitis (In Sharad & In Vedamurthy, 2019). This is based on a history of exposure to infectious irritants during the camping trip. The clinical manifestations of itchiness, redness pigmentation and rashes

indicate the presence of an allergen, infective agent or irritant that triggers adverse reactions to the skin. For the case of allergic contact dermatitis, a rash begins from the lower legs and spread across other regions of the body. As such, this is the primary diagnosis for the patient since the manifestation of the condition described is similar to the incidences observed in the boy.Discussion Diagnosis and Management of Skin Disorders

For the second diagnosis, the client is likely to have atopic dermatitis. This is due to the presence of lesions that appear symmetrically distributed in the lower extremities (In Kon & In Rai, 2017). The condition is associated with high levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) which is related to allergic reactions subsequently manifested in the epithelial barrier surfaces (Ring & Hanifin, 2016). Atopic dermatitis is a progression of skin infections and can cause allergic or irritant contact dermatitis.

The patient also indicates symptoms associated with poisonous ivy rash. This is a type of contact disease associated with direct contacts with urushiol from plants of a Toxicodendron genus origin (Barsotti et al., 2016). In the event that a person gets into contact with the oil from the plant, they are likely to develop rashes which also cause itchiness. The condition is more common for people who engaged in outdoor activities especially in places where the plant is common and this affirms its presence in the patient who was involved in a camping trip (In Sharad & In Vedamurthy, 2019).).

Treatment and Management Plan

For the allergic contact dermatitis, apply a topical corticosteroid betamethasone valerate cream 0.1% x 2 daily. This is given until the lesions are clear in order to minimize redness and itchiness (Kaya, 2018). Also, give Prednisone 20mg PO x 2 daily for seven days to relieve pain associated with pruritus. However, for self-management, the patient should be advised to repeatedly compresses the affected area using a wet towel dipped in cold water to relieve the pain.

In the case of poisonous ivy rash, apply Diaper Rash Ointment 30% x 2 daily on the affected skin. Administer Benadryl PO 1 x 2 daily for seven days to relieve allergic reactions (Kaya, 2018). Instruct the patient to use an oatmeal-based bath product soaked in cool water to apply in the affected area to relieve pain.

As for atopic dermatitis, administer a topical corticosteroid betamethasone valerate cream 0.1% x 2 daily for seven days (Ring & Hanifin, 2016). Advise the patient to use emollients as moisturizers to stop the affected skin from becoming dry.

Late Policy

The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.

As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. I advise you look at the requirements for these assignments at the beginning of the course and plan accordingly. I have posted the YouTube link that explains all the class assignments in detail. It is required that you watch this 32-minute video as the assignments from week 3 through 5 require that you follow the instructions to the letter to succeed. Failure to complete these assignments according to instructions might lead to a zero. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength.
