Discuss how you would use data to develop information knowledge and wisdom in the workplace.
A DIKW pyramid model can depict the link between data, information, knowledge, and wisdom (DIKW). Every level up the pyramid, in essence, answers the query about the starting data and increases its worth. The more context and meaning added to the data, the more knowledge and details are gathered. As a result, data can be used in the workplace to produce information, knowledge, and wisdoms, as mentioned below. A collection of unstructured raw facts is referred to as data. However, data without context is meaningless. As a result, value and context need be provided to data in order to make it relevant. As a result, data can be utilized to create information by removing errors and processing it in a way that allows for measurement, visualization, and analysis for a specific purpose. By asking important questions like what, when, who, and where, among others, significant information may be extracted from the data and the data can be made more resourceful. When the question ‘how’ is posed, however, the data transforms from information to knowledge (Nelson, 2018).
‘How’ is the information received from the data gathered related to the workplace’s goals at the knowledge level? As a result, information is transformed into knowledge when it is not just regarded as a summary of data obtained, but also acknowledges how it may be used to achieve organizational goals. Wisdom is obtained, however, only when the knowledge and details gained from the information are applied to inform proactive judgments. Wisdom can be defined as knowledge that is put into practice (Lei & Yucong, 2021). Data and information should ideally be viewed as a reflection of the past, whereas knowledge and wisdom should be tied to what the organization is doing today and what it hopes to achieve in the future.
