BU Public Health Discussion

During the Unit 1 Discussion, you listed at least three unique ways that public health personally impacts your daily life or community. Now that you have read about the 10 essential public health services, please do the following: 1. Categorize your three daily interactions with the public health system into the 10 essential public health services (categorize each). 2. Describe why you believe each of these interactions fits into the essential services you identified. Remember that each interaction you listed may fit into more than one of the 10 essential public health services (Describe each in a separate paragraph). 1 My Daily Activities That Public Health Practices Impact Student’s Name Course Number and Code Instructor’s Name Institutional Affiliation Due Date 2 My Daily Activities That Public Health Practices Impact Public health comprises all safety practices in the community that help prevent the spread of infections, diseases, and injuries before they occur. Several activities in my daily life are impacted by public health practice. The first is buckling my seat belt while travelling to school and other places. Public health organizations have put a strong effort into promoting the importance of seat belts for passengers and how they help to reduce injuries and deaths. Studies show that motor vehicle crashes in the United States have reduced by 41% between 1979 and 2011 due to efforts by public health and safety organizations for increased education and stricter laws regarding speeding and seat belts. The second activity in my regular life impacted by public health practices is going for morning runs for exercise and physical fitness. Public health studies promote the importance of physical health, such as reducing the risk of diseases such as coronary heart disease. Public health and safety organizations encourage people to exercise regularly and are also at the forefront of advocating for community spaces for people to exercise. These include gyms, parks, and ample spaces for running or bike riding activities, which have helped many people in my community improve their physical health. I also walk in the park regularly, especially in the evening after school, and the environment around it is always clean and has fresh air. Sometimes, I go there with my siblings, and they always enjoy seeing a family of ducks that have found a home in a small pond in the middle of the park. Public health organizations in my community are responsible for creating the park and, as a result, improving the quality of life through its monitoring of the environment. Sitting in such an environment can help relax your mind and meditate, and it is also a beautiful place to spend time with family or a friend. Communities need to have these parks. 3 I am surprised that systemic inequities impacting health are also considered public health practices, but the video helped me understand how it is. Systemic inequities affect the population’s access to resources they need to be healthy. According to data from the United States census organization between 2010 and 2015, easy access to these essential resources helped to improve lifespan by up to 20 years (American Public Health Association, n.d.). Since public health issues can affect anyone, it is important to ensure that all communities have equal access to the essential resources for their health and safety to prevent disease’s potential emergence and spread. 4 References American Public Health Association.
