Brief Interaction with Intrinsic Extrinsic Motivators Promoting Change

APRN: How may I help you today?

CLIENT: I am here for my follow-up, and I have not been feeling any better with this treatment. (Extrinsic)

APRN: So, when you began the treatment, what did you expect to achieve?

CLIENT: An immediate resolution of the symptoms so that I can resume my work. (Extrinsic)

APRN:  There are two ways we could take this. The effect of the medication can take up to 4 weeks before you start to feel the results of the medication you are taking. We can wait, or we can change it to another medication, but it will also take time, and eventually, you will be able to resume your work. Which alternative would you consider?

CLIENT: Well, if that is the case, I am willing to keep taking the drug until its effects are felt. (Intrinsic)

APRN: It is understandable that your plan is to keep taking this medication for another two weeks, at which point you’ll return to the next appointment for monitoring.

CLIENT: Yes, that is what I plan to do. Thank you. (Intrinsic)

Kind regards,

Patrina Brown.
