Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a non-profit organization operating in Canada, the United States and Brazil. The purpose of the organization is to champion against drunk driving and underage drinking by calling for strict policies and other measures that curtain drunk driving intending to completely eliminate impaired driving (MADD, 2022). The organization was created in 1984 and through advocacy against impaired driving, it has managed to reduce the number of fatalities associated with drunk driving by half since its establishment. The organization believes that drunk driving is a 100% preventable crime (Romano, 2021).
Apart from fighting to end impaired driving, MADD also provides resources to victims who have been affected by drunk driving. For example, MADD acknowledges that at least every day, someone meets a nightmare caused by drunk driving, which leads to immense loss and suffering (Bailey, 2022). Thus, it provides resources for these people to assist them in alleviating the negative impacts. Moreover, the organization has a team of expert professional advocates that work with victims to identify their needs and connect them with the resources they need across social and health care. Furthermore, the Victim Impact Panel program provides an opportunity for victims to share their stories, which is an important part of the healing process.
I have identified several resources on the website that can assist in developing my campaign against alcohol consumption among
youths. The website has several stories of the victims and their families on the impact of drunk driving (Editorial Staff, 2022). These stories are powerful and can have an impact on people when used to campaign against underage drinking. For example, the stories told by the mothers of teens and teens themselves can be used to create awareness and teach the youth population about the dangers of alcohol consumption and the consequences of drunk driving.
