The article shows that interventions by case managers provide positive outcomes for the patients. According to the study outcomes, case management resulted in improvement in measures of quality in patient care that included self-care activities, wellbeing and quality of life. The review of literature in the article also revealed that case management reduces the cost of care for the patient and health care organization. The reduction in cost in turn improves the quality of care provided to them. Case management also promotes patient-centered care. Case managers also focus on ensuring that the unique needs of the patients are addressed individually (Joo & Huber, 2014). Therefore, it is evident from the article that case management promotes positive outcomes for the patients.
Safety principles that are found in the research article include justice, autonomy, non-maleficence, and beneficence. Case managers promote justice by ensuring that patients have access to quality, safe, and affordable care. They ensure that care is affordable for the
patients by utilizing cost-effective models of accessing the care they need. There is individualization of the needs of the patients. This ensures prioritization of the care needs, thereby, promotion of the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence. Case managers also promote safety in the provision of care (Joo & Huber, 2014). Through it, they protect the diverse rights of patients in accessing and utilizing healthcare services.

One of the positive aspects related to the role of case manager in the research article is patient advocate. Nurse case managers ensure that the best-available evidence is utilized in the provision of care. The other positive role of the case manager is being a leader in the provision of care. He or she leads the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the care given to patients. One of the negative roles of the case nurse manager is resolving conflicts due to dilemma in practice. They have to forego their interests to meet the needs of their clients. I agree with student X in the identification of the positive and negative aspects of the roles of case manager. He successfully shows that while case management has significant opportunities for nurses, it also has challenges that form part of the disadvantages of the roles they play in their practice.
