A Sample Answer For the Assignment: Assignment: Reporting Health Data Essay
Title: Assignment: Reporting Health Data Essay
The provision of quality healthcare that promotes safety and efficiency is mandatory for all institutions of health care. This provision includes mandatory reporting of vital statistics that would assist in the development of public health plans. Since the early 19th century, the need for mandatory reporting was adopted in the US. As argued by Herzig et al. (2015), mandatory reporting was used to ensure that public health institutions keep track of vital data that reflect the health status of the population. For instance, it is largely recognized that mandatory reporting of health statistics is important in tracking incidences of communicable diseases that are considered a threat to the health of the public. Therefore, this research paper explores examples of situations where duty exists to report health data, reason for mandatory reporting, ways of obtaining the data, and methods of improving status quo in reporting the data.
One example of health data that must reported in the US is data on communicable diseases. The respective state legislatures are required by the law to report any incidence of communicable diseases affecting its population. The reported data is used for purposes such as planning of medical therapy for cases such as tuberculosis and detection of sources of outbreaks such as food-borne diseases. The other example of health data that must be reported in the US is incidence of child abuse. Healthcare providers and institutions are required to report any form of child abuse to the involved authorities and state agencies (DE, 2019). The abuse can be in different forms such as emotional, sexual, physical, exploitation, bullying, neglect, and shaken baby syndrome. The reporting is important in informing the interventions that should be adopted to curb incidences of child abuse in the country.

Communicable diseases and incidences of child abuse should be reported because of several reasons. Firstly, communicable diseases should be reported for the tracking of disease prevalence and incidence in the state. Public health officials are able to track the trends
of outbreak of communicable diseases and come up with interventions to prevent their future occurrence. Reporting is also important as it aids in the planning process. For instance, reporting of tuberculosis statistics will aid the state in determining the budget needed for providing the needed medical care to the affected. The mandatory reporting is also important in identifying the source of outbreaks of communicable diseases. Through it, the public health officials can plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of prevention and control programs. Reporting of child abuse incidences is important in contributing to the creation of safe environments in our communities (Mathews & Bross, 2015). It also raises the need for support programs for the victims of child abuse as a way of promoting their health and wellbeing in their societies.
Gathering and Reporting Health Data
The information on communicable diseases and child abuse are gathered and reported by healthcare providers and institutions providing care to these patients. Health care data is particularly gathered through epidemiological surveillance techniques. These techniques obtain relevant data that will be used by public health officials to determine the cause effect relationship between exposure and development of a disease. Each institution of healthcare has reporting mechanisms that are used to transmit electronic data of the cases to the involved authorities. For instance, they are required to report the incidences to the involved authorities such as public health bodies and the state agencies involved in public health surveillance. The incidences should also be reported to the United States Center for Disease Control for further evaluation of their impact on public health and ways in which they can be addressed.
Improving Status Quo
While reporting of these data is a mandatory, there are factors that hinder it from being undertaken by the involved authorities and personnel. As shown by Federation of State of Medical Boards (2017), factors such as system issues and individual behaviors can hinder effectiveness of mandatory reporting. Therefore, the existing status quo in reporting needs to be improved with the adoption of specific responsive interventions. The interventions include the promotion of culture of responsible reporting, use of incentives to enhance reporting, and increasing the level of understanding and knowledge among health care providers to improve the status quo in mandatory reporting of vital statistics. These interventions have not been adopted due to the intransigence of health care institutions that oversee the collection and reporting of data.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.
Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
