Title:  Assignment: Learning Environment Observation Essay

Nurse educators strive to ensure that the learning environment promotes the optimum retention of the content being taught. They employ a wide range of teaching methodologies to meet the diverse needs of the learners. They ensure that the methodologies are learner-centered for optimum learning and sustainability of the methods utilized in the process. Therefore, this essay is a summary of an observation experience I undertook in a traditional classroom setting directed at the nursing students.

The ELEOT assessment tool for determining the effectiveness of the learning environments was used. The tool focuses on a wide range of aspects that include the determination of whether the environment promotes equitable learning, meets high expectations of the learners, supports learning, use of digital technologies, and active learning. The average score of the ELEOT assessment was 90%. The results imply that there was evident presence of the aspects that are needed for effective learning in the classroom. The areas with the highest scores in the assessment tool included equitable learning environment, high expectations environment, active learning environments, and well-managed environments. The area with the least scores in the observation was the promotion of use of digital technologies to promote learning. Therefore, I would recommend that the instructor incorporate the use of digital tools to increase the learning outcomes. The ELEOT assessment that was used is attached in the appendix section.

How the Instructor Maintained and Managed the Learning Environment

The instructor used a wide range of interventions to maintain and manage the learning environment. One of them was treating his

learners with respect. He emphasized the importance of respecting the diverse views of the learners in the classroom. He also appreciated the contributions of the learners irrespective of whether they were right or wrong. The instructor also was prepared for the lesson. He mastered all the content for the lesson. This improved the attention of the learners. The instructor also provided the learners with constructive feedback. He mainly focused on assisting them identify their areas of weakness in their understanding and gave them feedback on ways of improving it (Billings & Halstead, 2020). Therefore, there strategies promoted the creation of a learning environment that promoted active learning.

One of the engagement strategies that the instructor used was question-answer approach to teaching. He posed questions to the learners as a way of increasing their participation and stimulating critical and creative thinking. The instructor also began the class by recapping the previous lesson. This was important in setting the stage for the lesson and allowing the learners to understand the relationship between the lessons and concepts learned. He also encouraged active participation of the learners. He sought leaner participation by allowing them to express their experiences with the concepts being taught. The instructor also provided frequent feedback to the students (Billings & Halstead, 2020). Through these interventions, the instructor was able to promote active engagement and understanding of the content by the learners.

One of the ways I will implement the strategies used by the instructor is encouraging active participation of the learners in the learning process. I will encourage them to provide their insights into the concepts being taught and relate them with their experience. The other way I will implement is encouraging respect among the learners. I will stress the need for ensuring that the views, opinions, and concerns of the learners are respected. I will also stimulate critical thinking among my learners by giving them case studies to be solved. This will help them build their problem-solving skills (Hessler, 2017). Therefore, I believe that these interventions will enable me to create effective learning environment.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
