Assignment  Information Technology Professional Interview Essay

Introduction

In this paper, I will discuss the findings from an interview I conducted with an IT professional working in the project management department at my current organization. I will discuss the project development methodology used and the roles of a business analyst in health IT projects. Application developer skillsets, the quality assurance process and the system testing methodology used will also be discussed.

Project Development Methodology

In the interview conducted with the information technology (IT) expert, I learned that the organization uses the lean methodology in project management. The lean methodology aims at guiding project managers in the entire project execution and directs the steps needed in the completion of the tasks (Neelakantan, 2018). It promotes the creation of value to the customer while at the same time reducing wastage and using limited resources (Cohen, 2018). It also focuses on respect for individuals and continuous improvement.

Lean methodology classifies waste into 3Ms, namely, Muda, Mura, and Muri. Muda involves eliminating waste and is concerned with activities or processes that add no values such as activities that lead to wastage of time and resources (Cohen, 2018). On the other hand, Mura encompasses elimination of variances that hinder operational workflow, ensuring that everything runs smoothly (Neelakantan, 2018). Muri involves the elimination of overload to prevent work slowdown. For instance, poor organization, use of inappropriate tools, or lack of guidelines can slowdown work progress.

The Role of a Business Analyst in Health IT Projects

A healthcare business analyst role is to increase and enhance efficiency and income of health facilities by evaluating their financial activity, data management, and services. The core responsibility is to identify challenges and areas of improvement within

the health facility (Ivanov, 2016). As a result, the facility’s performance is enhanced, increasing income. Furthermore, a business analyst evaluates the financial activity and seek measures to manage expenditures such as the purchase of supplies and payment of overtime. They work by first defining a problem or identifying an area that needs improvement, for example, high operational cost (Ivanov, 2016). They then simplify the problem into minor ways that can solve the problem. For instance, high operational costs can be reduced by reducing overtime hours or minimizing the cost of hospital supplies.

The next phase encompasses researching and collecting data that guides problem-solving. For instance, the analyst may look for contractors who supply quality hospital services and goods at a lower price than the current contractors. After gathering data, the analyst analysis the findings and use them to search for probable solutions (Ivanov, 2016). Lastly, they may test variables using software to guide in choosing the most suitable solution to the problem and in the formulation of policies.

The role of healthcare business analysts prepares them in the identification of challenges that face health facilities in their day-to-day operation. Besides, the role has helped them acquire skills on data analysis, validation of data, and prepare project reports (Ivanov, 2016). They have also gained expertise on how to develop test plans that guide the improvement of data quality and policy formation (Ivanov, 2016). Lastly, the role has prepared them to act as consultants in challenging projects by recommending ways that can alleviate the situation and prevent future occurrence.

Application Developer Skill Sets

The IT department used cloud computing as an application developer skill sets. Cloud computing involves the conveyance of computing resources, including applications and data centers over the internet (Lo’ai, Mehmood, Benkhlifa & Song, 2016). The cloud permits developers to develop applications that can be shared to servers where users can access the applications and information on the internet. Cloud computing can be applied in the nursing profession to save files, research articles, and patient’s information (Lo’ai, Mehmood, Benkhlifa & Song, 2016). The data saved can be accessed by health professionals who have rights to access the information. Besides, the data stored can be used to conduct medical research and in generating new knowledge on the management of various health conditions.

Quality Assurance Process and System Testing Methodology

The quality of the software is determined by the quality of its external and internal features. The process of quality assurance involves two fundamental approaches that define the quality of software, namely defect management and quality attributes (Kumar, Subhash, Fatimam & Mahmood, 2018). In defect management, defects are categorized as per their severity. The defects of an application are counted and measures taken based on the severity (Turner, 2018). On the other hand, the quality attributes approach emphases on six quality features, namely functionality, usability, reliability, maintainability, efficiency, and portability.

The system testing methodology used was Performance testing, which is a software that guarantees that the software application performs excellently in its estimated capacity. Performance Testing aims at eliminating jams that slow the software performance (Turner, 2018). In addition, the software tests a system’s features, function, performance, reliability, response time, and usage of resources. The focus of Performance testing is on speed, scalability, and stability of an application.

Assignment: Information Technology Professional Interview Essay Conclusion

In conclusion, lean methodology emphasizes on increasing customer value in an efficient manner that eliminates wastage in the organization. The methodology assumes that quality improves when there is the elimination of wastage in time cost production and time. In addition, the role of a health care business is conducting data analysis, and validation and preparing facility reports. Cloud computing can be adopted to save documents in an organization that can be shared to users via the internet.  Lastly, an application is taken through quality assurance and systems testing to evaluate its quality, efficiency, and reliability.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
