Assignment: Health Care Legislation in Arizona
Caregivers Assisted Living Training is one of the legislations being considered in Arizona. The Arizona Nursing Board in together with assisted living facility managers are required by law to ensure that nurses are consistent in training, so competence in assisted living facility caregiving is improved. The legislation was developed by the “Arizona Department of Health” in collaboration with “Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)”. If a nurse completes training on competence requirements that are developed by AHCCCS administration, they are given a training certification to work as an assisted living caregiver in a health facility.
Caregivers Assisted Living Training legislation in Arizona will have a significant impact on my future practice. As Alperton and Fowler (2017) assert, the law helps nurses take advantage of the opportunity to expand their roles in a redesigned healthcare system. Therefore, the legislation will provide me with a chance to expand the scope of my practice as a nurse to include assisted caregiving. I will also assert my practice to include the provision of adult foster care, where assisted care is given at home. Furthermore, with the education and training required by the legislation, I will be able to provide patient-centered, equitable, and safe health care services to the adult population. I believe that the scope of the legislation will prepare me to be ready to adapt to the ever dynamic and changing health care demands and, at the same time, work together with other nurses to give efficient and effective care to all my patients (Falk-Huzar, 2017).

I envision myself to potentially becoming involved in political advocacy of my profession in future practice because I believe support adds a dimension to my professional practice (Maaks, 2019). It offers the reward of having control over patient outcomes and care. Besides, with an expansion of the nursing workforce in Arizona, I believe successful advocacy will help me influence my practice and health care in general in the legislative arena. I will also be able, through advocacy, to bring about positive changes in the health care system of Arizona. Along with necessary political skills, the positive changes successful advocacy may bring include access to health resources, affordable health care, and properly trained and certified nurses (Maaks, 2019).
