Assignment  Data collection, Analysis and Evaluation Dissemination of Results

Data Collection

PICO Question and Quantitative Method. The restated PICO question is: why is it essential to train nurses to use the SBAR tool to prevent medical and surgical errors? The data collection that is preferable for the study is quantitative. The SBAR tool is proven as being an effective communication tool that is utilized by nurses in the advancement of care to patients. SBAR is an acronym that is utilized in nursing which stands for Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation (Shahid & Thomas, 2018). The framework is also utilized in writing clinical reports of patients admitted in a medical facility. There are some nurses who have received training on how to utilize the SBAR tool while there are other without training in it. The survey method is the most effective method for the researcher to utilize. Therefore, the ideal data collection method is quantitative. Also, a questionnaire is an ideal data collection tool that can be utilized in collecting data from nurses, who have been sampled for the purpose of the study.

Survey Method. The choice of the survey method is primarily based on the ease of dissemination of the questionnaires and the ease of recruitment of a higher sample size. Finding the sample size that is representative of the study population is essential in ensuring that the findings of the study can easily be applied to the entire study population. Additionally, the quantitative structure of the method is easy to explain and to be understood by the respondents’ since they have to provide responses based on the options that are provided per question. Such will ensure that there is ease in the analysis of the data collected and higher probability of the respondents filling in the entire questionnaire (Harrington, Bosch, Schoofs, Beel-Bates, & Anderson, 2015). On the disadvantage, the respondents are limited on the responses that they can issue since all the questions are close ended (Watson, 2015). However, it is important to note that the responses in the survey need to be close ended to collect quantitative data since open ended questions would risk the researcher shifting to the qualitative method.Assignment  Data collection, Analysis and Evaluation Dissemination of Results

Three research assistants will be hired by the researcher to select the potential respondents and make calls to the target respondents. The calls will offer information on the objectives of the study, guideline on how the survey needs to be filled out and the method that they prefer to access the survey questionnaire. The existent methods upon which the survey tool will reach the respondents is either through e-mail or mail. Prior to the main study, a pilot test will be undertaken to test the reliability and validity of the research tool. Such will enable the researcher to adjust the questionnaire and capture the needed information that needs to be utilized under the survey.

Data Collection Points

The data collection process will take the format of a longitudinal survey. The key purpose of the longitudinal survey is to determine the consistency of the answers that the participants provide when the same research tool has been utilized and the capability of realizing validity in the responses that are issued by the respondents during the study. Notably, the data collection process will take place during base line, mid line and end line of the study. Such will be essential in analyzing the views that the nurses have towards the efficacy of SBAR tool and its use in the reduction of medical errors within the clinical setting.

Length of Time for Data Collection

The data collection process will take a total duration of twenty four weeks. The first week will mark the collection of the baseline data. During the 12th week, the mid line data will be collected and analyzed by the researcher. The end line will be conducted during the 24th week mark. This will then give room for the analysis of the data collected and writing report of the analysis and findings of the study.

Sources of Data

Self-reports are the main source of data that needs to be utilized by the researcher during the study. The self-report utilized during the study contains a set of close ended questions that the respondents will need to issue feedback based on the set of questions asked therein. Notably, the questions contained in the questionnaire are all close ended. The respondent will be asked to fill in the entire questionnaire based on the multiple choice provided. The primary essence of the self-report is to ensure that there is primary data that is essential for the researcher, based on the study topic and the research questions that are under investigation.

The other source of data is literature review. Seeking data from reportable journals is a notable source of quantitative data (Watson, 2015). The studies chosen need to be in tandem with the research questions and the topic that is under investigation. Additionally, there is need to affirm that there are no conflict of interest in the studies chosen and researcher bias is not passed to the current study that is in the roll out phase.

Data Quality

Taking up measures to ensure that there is validity and reliability in the research tool is essential in capturing the right information for utilization in the study. One of the notable measures that will be taken up is the presentation of the research question and the objectives of the study at the top most part of the questionnaire. The questions that are to be drawn into the study are to be based on the feedback that one receives from the study. Pilot testing and analysis of the data that is collected from the pilot study is essential in enabling the researcher to determine the extent to which the study instrument is both reliable and valid, thus, facilitating any adjustments that could be taken up prior to the undertaking of the final study. The pilot process will be participatory and the researcher will offer clarification to the pilot respondents and make adjustments to the questions that are deemed as not being clear for the purpose of the study. The pilot process will enable the researcher to keep the study short and precise and further take the study instruments for review with senior researchers who have previously published in an area closer or same to the study topic. Such will ensure that the professional comments regarding the study tool are integrated in the study design.

Lopes Write Policy

For assignments that need to be submitted to Lopes Write, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.

Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes.

Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?

Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.

Late Policy

The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.

Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances.

If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect.

I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension.

As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.

Communication

Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me:

Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class.

Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. I advise you look at the requirements for these assignments at the beginning of the course and plan accordingly. I have posted the YouTube link that explains all the class assignments in detail. It is required that you watch this 32-minute video as the assignments from week 3 through 5 require that you follow the instructions to the letter to succeed. Failure to complete these assignments according to instructions might lead to a zero. After watching the video, please schedule a one-on-one with me to discuss your topic for your project by the second week of class. Use this link to schedule a 15-minute session. Please, call me at the time of your appointment on my number. Please note that I will NOT call you.

Please, be advised I do NOT accept any assignments by email. If you are having technical issues with uploading an assignment, contact the technical department and inform me of the issue. If you have any issues that would prevent you from getting your assignments to me by the deadline, please inform me to request a possible extension. Note that working fulltime or overtime is no excuse for late assignments. There is a 5%-point deduction for every day your assignment is late. This only applies to approved extensions. Late assignments will not be accepted.

If you think you would be needing accommodations due to any reasons, please contact the appropriate department to request accommodations.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
