The present study focuses on how the theory can be used to develop educational plan to provide an intervention for Hispanic-Americans entrapped in the cycle of alcohol abuse.

Beliefs of Hispanic-Americans on Alcoholism

Alcoholism among the Latin-American community is attributed to acculturation which has influenced the population to assimilate the binge drinking patterns of the other immigrant communities in America (Todd et al., 2016). Over the recent past,

Hispanic-America population have developed a conviction to categorize alcoholism as a disease and thus the need for a rehabilitation to respond to the compulsive behavior. Besides, the community also consider alcoholism as a personal choice and not an inherited disease due to different patterns of compulsive behavior among the populations (Barratt & Cooke, 2018). Nonetheless, the community considers the youth as the most vulnerable to alcoholism due to their patterns of embracing lifestyles of celebrities most of whom are associated with alcohol and substance abuse.

As per the beliefs of the Latin-Americans, it is apparent that alcoholism is related to positive expectancies and the need to

achieve self-efficacy. In essence, people resort to excess alcohol consumption due to a number of reasons. Nonetheless, a majority of the members of the community are made up of youths who are entrapped by peer pressure to fit into the model of heavy drinkers in American.

Perceived Behavioral Control

The negative outcomes related to alcoholism are readily understood by the target population. This is evidenced by high incidences of diabetes that affects the racial group similar to other communities in the United States of America. Moreover, the community have knowledge about a positive correlation of mental health illnesses and alcohol abuse (Wallisch et al., 2018). Due to a combination of behavioral belief and evaluation of negative outcomes of alcoholism, Hispanic-Americans are likely to embrace behavioral interventions to address binge drinking. In other words, the population will be motivated to comply with the perceived behavioral control and this can be used to predict success of a program (Cooke et al., 2016).             Mainly, the focus of intervention should be inclined towards education about the harms associated with alcoholism. This means that Hispanic-Americans require information about the recommended number of bottles of alcohol appropriate for optimal health. The premise ensures that Hispanic-American community consume alcohol in moderation. Moreover, the population need to be encouraged to enroll in rehabilitation programs to support sobriety for those diagnosed with alcohol use disorders. However, a major challenge of provider bias is recognized in a majority of the rehabilitation centers (Todd et al., 2016). This is because a number health officers including physicians, addiction specialists and counselors are English speakers which may alter effective administration of therapy to Hispanics. With this, the target population can only be confident with a perceived behavioral control if they can readily communicate with the care providers. In essence, the intervention program should incorporate health care providers who are Hispanics or those that can readily communicate in the language of the target population (Mills, Caetano & Vaeth, 2014). In addition, since Latin-Americans are likely to engage in binge drinking, healthcare providers should design interventions that influence positive attitude change towards sobriety to translate into a healthy lifestyle habit.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
