A professional development plan is an important tool for career development. It is a valuable document that helps establish both career goals and how to accomplish them. As a master of nursing student, the professional development plan will help me develop goals and reflect my academic achievements (Doss-McQuitty, 2016). Walden University provides me with the capability to learn and achieve my personal and nursing goals of caring for patients and helping them improve their health status. As I reflect on my academic, career and life experiences, I realize how much they have molded me to become one of the best nurses in the country. In spite of being a better nurse, I still have goals to achieve and I desire to go further academically and career-wise. In this paper, I will develop my curriculum vitae, state my professional development goals, and explain how they align with the University’s emphasis on social change.

Step 2: Professional Development Goals

During my experience as a registered nurse, I have met new people including nurse educators and nurse managers. These people have become my role models through their hard work to improve lives and nurture new professionals. My teacher back in nursing school

while I was pursuing a bachelor’s degree once inspired me that I could realize my full potential only by furthering my education. I am also inspired by the work of early nursing theorists such as Florence Nightingale, Virginia Henderson, Dorothy Johnson, Hildegard Peplau and others who changed the world of nursing into something better. They mark the basis for my academic success and professional development goals. I also want to make an impact in my community and my country to improve lives, raise living standards, save lives, and restore hopes of patients and their families (Schober, 2016).

Nursing profession is a life learning career, hence, its main agenda includes saving lives and restoring hopes. Therefore, my professional development goals entail meeting the healthcare needs of diverse individuals, families, communities, populations, and groups across various environments (Doss-McQuitty, 2016). Additionally, I aim at acquiring leadership skills that are required for the healthcare team (Schober, 2016). Another goal is to become a nurse educator to prepare students for leadership roles in clinical nursing, nursing education, advanced practice nursing, and administration. With adequate knowledge and education from Walden University, my masters of nursing program will grant me the opportunity to achieve these professional development goals.Assignment Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Essay

Step 3: Alignment with Social Change

In many instances, the organizational statements of vision and mission are considered the foundation for the professional development of students. Walden University has a mission statement that ties the students’ career development to social change. My professional development goals accurately align with Walden’s emphasis on social change. The university’s mission states that “Walden University provides a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so that they can effect positive social change” (Walden University, 2020). On the other hand, Walden’s vision statement states that ” Walden University envisions a distinctively different 21st-century learning community where knowledge is judged worthy to the degree that it can be applied by its graduates to the immediate solutions of critical societal challenges, thereby advancing the greater global good” (Walden University, 2020).

Both the vision and mission emphasize social change as the best element of education. They support my professional development goals in one way or the other. For instance, I will bring social change by improving lives and restoring the hopes of community members (Doss-McQuitty, 2016). Additionally, becoming a nurse educator will enable me to produce competent students with leadership skills who will in turn impact positively to the community leading to social change (Walden University, 2020). Walden University is the best learning center to be in order to realize academic achievement. The communication between the students and instructors makes it easier to achieve the organization’s mission and vision.
