Assessment 2: Ethical and Policy Factors in Care Coordination

Assessment 2: Ethical and Policy Factors in Care Coordination

Choose a community organization or group that you believe would be interested in learning more about ethical and policy problems related to care coordination. Then, for that audience, create and record a 10- to 12-slide, 20-minute presentation with audio. Create a 4-5-page thorough narrative script or speakers notes for your presentation.

Nurses must be aware of the code of ethics for nurses as well as health policy issues that affect the coordination of care in the community as care coordinators. Nurses must be capable of comprehending and applying the code of ethics for nurses as well as health legislation, notably the Affordable Care Act, to assist patients in navigating the continuum of care (ACA). Care coordinators who are aware about ethical and policy concerns are better equipped to uphold ethical standards and navigate policy challenges that affect patient care.

This evaluation gives you the opportunity to create a presentation for a local community organization of your choice that covers ethical standards and pertinent policy concerns that affect care coordination. Completing this quiz will improve your grasp of ethical problems and policies pertaining to the coordination and continuum of care, as well as equip you to be a more effective advocate and nurse.

Prior to making the presentation, it would be a good idea to complete the Vila Health: Ethical Decision Making activity. The assignment gives a useful refresher on the ethical standards that will aid in this assessment’s success.

Proficiency Demonstration

You will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies by successfully completing this assessment using the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

Competency 4: Justify judgments made in accordance with the nursing code of ethics.

Examine the impact of the nurse’s code of ethics on care coordination and continuity.

Explain how health-care policies affect patient-centered care in Competency 5.

Explain how government policies affecting a community’s health and/or safety affect the coordination of care.

Identify policy provisions at the national, state, and local levels that present ethical concerns or challenges for care coordination.

Competency 6: Lead patient-centered care using professional, academic communication tactics.

Present significant ethical and policy problems affecting the coordination and continuum of care for a specific community organization or support group in a presentation. Speaker notes or audio voice-over are both available.

Preparation

Your community care center’s nurse manager is well-connected and speaks to a variety of community organizations and groups on a regular basis. She admires your speaking and presenting skills and has seen the good work you’re doing in your new care coordination role. As a result, she believes that having the opportunity to speak publicly about current issues in care coordination would be beneficial to your career, and she has suggested contacting a community organization or support group to see if they are interested in hearing from you, as a care center representative, on a topic that is of interest to both you and your potential audience.

You’ve determined that this is a good idea and that you’ll look for a community organization or support group that could be interested in learning more about the ethical and policy problems surrounding care coordination. Your manager has recommended the following community organizations and support groups, but it is ultimately your decision.

Instructions

For this evaluation, consider the following:

Select the community organization or support group to which you will speak.

Create a PowerPoint presentation for that audience that includes typed speaker notes (the script for your voice recording) and an audio voice-over recording. There is no need for video.

Note: PowerPoint includes a function that allows you to type speaker notes right into your presentation. You have the option of using that functionality or submitting a separate document. For technical assistance with PowerPoint, including voice recording and speaker notes, go to Microsoft Office Software.

Prepare your presentation slides and speaker notes for this assessment, then record your presentation. It is not necessary for you to do your presentation in front of a live audience.

Format and Length of Presentation

To construct your slides and add your voice over, you can use PowerPoint (preferred) or any acceptable presentation program. If you choose to use a program other than PowerPoint, make sure to consult with your professor to avoid any file compatibility concerns.

Make sure the following slides are included in your presentation:

The first slide is the title slide.

The title of the presentation.

Your given name.

Date.

The number and name of the course.

Bibliography (at the end of your presentation).

Aside from a title and references slide, your slide deck should have 10–12 slides with textual speaker notes and audio voice over. Your talk should last no more than 20 minutes.

For your presentation, write a thorough narrative script of 4–5 pages in length.

Evidence to Back It Up

To back up your argument, provide 3–5 trustworthy references from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications. Include a references page at the end of your narrative script with your source citations.
