Instructions Write a mini essay beginning with a review on the concepts of “Foreignness”, and the typical characteristics a substance requires to be immunogenic, the role of MHC molecules in activating T cells. Describe the primary and secondary immune responses, indicating where a vaccination might be most effective. Address the relationship between the incubation period of a pathogen and the approach needed to achieve effective active immunization. Describe the principle of vaccination preparation, development of new vaccines, the routes of administration and side effects associated with vaccines. Briefly touch on the controversy associated with vaccines and why herd immunity is critical in keeping a population safe from the spread of a pathogen.
